Can I play the MMO beta now? All I need to do is buy one of the 3 packs?

Also, I do not have the time to spend making a character an advancing within the world just to have him get wiped clean. Will there be a character wipe before the final release of the game?

And why I am at it...when is the soft release (open beta test)?

We are currently in between the test runs, so the servers are closed until Instanced Battles session at weekend starts. After that, you can expect one more test run. And yeah, there will be a complete wipe before OBT, which will start sometime after CBT is over.
