Hunt animal into Swamp to stop it moving

Post by Lollywanker » 22 Dec 2014, 11:18

If you are hunting an wild animal, try to move it into a swamp.
I experienced that they stop moving after a while being in a swamp.
So finshing the animal is much easier.

However I also experienced client crashes when moving my character into a swamp.
I reported this bug.

I had a wild abbit run into a swamp and ... it didn't stop hm. He moved as fast as he did earlier while I got a lot slower.

So it will not work all the time or works only on larger species.

I might have had some luck. The animal I hunted was an Aurochs Bull.

I think you were lucky, as I have never had an animal stop in a swamp. :(

I had no idea Aurochs Bulls were in the game yet... where on the map shall I find these creatures?

I assume you mean the ones not in the water? ;)

Try the SW, just pass the large swamp there. There is also a large, vertical narrow shaped valley in the south of the island (below the crescent shaped hill) that has 3 aurochs in it.

This was with an animal count set to 250 though.

I wish that would work:(

When I started playing this game I settled near the swamps and had a wolf sitting right on top of it. But alass it attacked from as soon as I came near haha.

Currently animal collision has not been coded into the game properly, for terrain, trees, or structures.

They are however bugged quite a bit, and will stop running when something in the code screws up. Most often this can be seen when using ranged damage (sling/bow/xbow) and after one or two hits, you are able to get close to it without it running. I think it might have to do with some of the animal's "chance to charge" check which many of the animals, even the peaceful ones, have. If the animal is already running away and takes damage, it does not seem to do this check. If it takes damage while standing passively, it does seem to do this check. However, many of the charge animations, damage calculations, and damage hitboxes do not seem to be fully functional, thus the bugginess.
