Increasing your alpha testing participation odds

Post by Bobik » 06 Nov 2012, 13:06

Well, it's quite simple. I've said numerous times that alpha will be not a game, but a pile of bugs and crashes dressed in lags and freezes. All we need is a compact team of people who are capable to spot them AND adequately report and describe them.
So that is a small minigame, for those who are willing to contribute their time for our project and they can do it right away!
Find some bugs, glitches, typos and so on somewhere on our site and boards, report them properly in that topic (with description, pics if needed, ways to reproduce or suggestions how to fix) and recieve permanent bonus:
+50% alpha tester chance boost

Good luck and have fun :)

I`d love to help out, as I`ve done this with my mod before and know how much a little help can do.

Not sure there is some formating available in your editor, which would be helpful to group things (I mean some headers, bold etc.) but here comes my first report. Ignore if its purely aesthetic thing, but I don't think its intended so I report. Also, don't consider it some uber serious bug report, just something I noticed and could describe quickly while being at work :) Hope it helps.

Wrong background images when hovering buttons on forum
=====================================

Description
----------
Hovering image-based buttons on forums (New topic, Subscribe) shows wrong background. It seems that the style is the same as for text-based links.

Sample pages where the bug occurs:

http://lifeisfeudal.com/community/forum ... t&catid=13
http://lifeisfeudal.com/community/forum ... =6&id=1663

Problem can be seen in action menu at the top and bottom of the page.

Reproducibility
------------
Always - happens every time you hover mouse over the affected button.

Severity
-------
Trivial (purely aesthetic, does not affect functionality)

Browser
-------
Chrome v. 22.0.1229.94

Attachments
-----------

Nicely submitted visual bug. I strongly suggest others to take that report as a template for their reports ;)

well, i thought i'd follow suit with the template and report another bug, thanks noizex for giving us an example of a wonderful bug report!

Text to the forum link disappears when hovered over
=====================================

Description
----------
Hovering over the link to the forums "Sandbox MMORPG "Life is Feudal" official forums" makes the text disappear.

Sample pages where the bug occurs:

http://lifeisfeudal.com/community/forum ... 14&id=2138

Problem can be seen wherever the link is present.

Reproducibility

Always - happens every time you hover mouse over the link.

Severity

minor: it's a bit annoying

ok so i found a bit of a problem during my last post, would like to report it as a bug

Cannot add multiple attachments & can't manage attachments directly in "reply to topic"
=====================================

Description
----------
Adding multiple files in the attachment section does not work, also added attachment cannot be modified before posting, i had to edit the post to get multiple attachments and edit the attachments

Solution suggestion:
add a separate window to manage the attchment

Reproducibility
------------
Always - happens every time you try to add multiple attachments

Severity
-------
moderate: affects functionality but not too much, is annoying, but doesn't affect the post itself.

Browser
-------
Chrome v. 23.0.1271.64

[yes it updated when i was checking for the version]

Ah, I confirm this one too, had the same problem and solved it the same - first 1 file got added, then I edited post and added another one. Also, picking even that one file seems a bit wierd, there is no feedback that file was chosen. I only found it got attached when I posted.

Unable to send private messages.
=======================================

Description
When going to a user's page and clicking on "Send Private Message" under the "Messages" tab the next page does not have the usual background and the buttons are misplaced. Most importantly there is no reCAPTCHA which disables the user to send messages. The pages states that "To use reCAPTCHA you must get an API key from https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create"

Reproducibility
Always

Severity
Moderate - Although one can still use the forum, this can limit communication through users.

Header image error
============================

Description
The header image that appears at the top of the main page as well as all player user pages is not lined up correctly. There is an obvious discontinuity between the images being used to create the header.

*After more testing, the level of offset for the images depends on the size of the browser window. With the header being made of several images, only some of the images re size based on the window size, but some do not which creates the distorted header. The image is fixed when the browser window is full screen.

Reproducibility
Always - This occurs on any website page with the header.

Severity
low - Visual Bug

================================

description:

Uploading a picture option appears when you go to the screenshot gallery in the media section on the main website, it's functional and i kinda sorta uploaded a picture to test if it was just a visual glitch [sorry~]

Reproducibility: Always, it's there whenever you go to the affected page

Severity: high - administrative tool available to the public

Fixed broken links, gallery picture submits. Will be working with private messages and header image glitches somewhen soon.

P.S. We're planning to rework our site quite alot in mostly internal parts: change forum engine, make full user integration across all components and game server accounts too and other stuff. But that will take alot of time, since it's not that much of priority ATM. So, please, be patient about site/forum bugs and shitton of spambots that are roaming our boards.

Incorrect term
=====================================

Description
On this page under the Crossbow its labeled as "lightxbow"

Sample pages where the bug occurs:

http://lifeisfeudal.com/media-materials ... shots.html

Severity
Its not very sever.. And you may even have a good reason for calling it this. But Xbow is more of a abbreviation or a slag word for Crossbow and does not look very good.

In the old forums we could search/view post that were listed as newest.
Should be able to have same option here.

Hi, Life is Feudal is the only sandbox project in circulation, the only really interesting and with a huge potential. I would like to participate in the testing phase of the future alpha or beta.

I would very much like to participate in alpha/beta testing if its possible. I have a rich gaming history - got my 1st pc when i was 5 years old (now im bloody 28... damn im old) and played games ever since. I have been noticing some... call them "inconsistencies" in the games since i was a kid, so i could say i got an eye for bug tracking (or at least i think i do).
So far i only participated in "Heroes of Newerth" beta tests and sent numerous bug reports (crash reports and essays on bugs i experienced). Every of my reports seemed legit since those bugs were take care of in the next patch.

Thank you for reading this and i hope you will consider me as one of your candidates.

I found a major bug on the website.

The link to the Lore section of the forums seems to be broken.
Image
I just get a blank screen. I tried refreshing and it didn't work.

Also when I navigate the website I often get "no data received" messages from Google Chrome. Usually refreshing a few times fixes it but it seems like a problem with the website. It's kind of frustrating when I'm trying to navigate.

I refreshed the Forum Index page and the screen went like this: Image
When I tried refreshing it again I got the "no data received" message. After a third refresh it finally worked. This all happened right now.

I think this website may be suffering from some serious compatibility issues with Google Chrome at the very least (if I'm the only one who's having these issues).

I am always in Chrome and i don't see such problems. But anyway, they appear when server receive some lag spikes, so he sends you only raw HTML without styles and pictures. We will try to find out what is happening and will fix it hopefully.
