Can't run game

Post by Benobi333 » 22 Nov 2014, 00:51

I bought the game thru Steam hoping to spent many hours blissfully playing away. This is not the case because my system will not run the game, as I get an E_OUTOFMEMORY message about dx3d not able to create some file.
I have Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.4GHz 3.80 GHZ, with 4.00 GB RAM, and operating Windows 8.1 ( 32-bit OS, X64 based processor).I can't run the game because (apparently) a 32-bit OS can only use ~3.48 GB of RAM. In all the system requirements I read before (or after) purchasing the game the need to have a 64-bit OS was mentioned. Now I choice of buying a new Windows OS ($100+), buying more memory (which sounds like it won't help), or waiting until the developers put out an update that corrects the situation.
I am sadly disappointed. :( :( :( :( :(

System requirements should be bumped to 64-bit OS, since the game uses almost all of the 4gb memory space and would leave nothing for a 32-bit OS.

Now a days almost all the CPUs are 64-bit. 32-bit and 64-bit are both different architectures. Even though Windows 32-bit and 64-bit look the same on both type of processors. A 64-bit OS can benefit you, if you have larger amounts of RAM installed on your Computer (4 GB or more, as Windows 32-bit OS will pretend anything above 3.2 GB isn't there). A 64-bit OS can handle large amounts of memory more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system, a 64-bit system can be more responsive when running several programs at the same time, and switching between them frequently. If you have 4 GB RAM and a modern 64-bit processor then you should install Windows 64-bit, as the 64-bit version of an OS can handle a computer with these specifications more efficiently. But if you have lesser RAM (less than 4 GB ) than stick to 32-bit OS.

When I get this error it is resolved by repairing the install.
