Open beta for everyone or what?

Post by Aivarioha » 17 Nov 2017, 10:39

OPEN beta. Is it absolutely accessible to everyone or just those who had purchased certain packs and etc.?

If you own LiF:YO on steam -> you get 1 character slot. You can start playing tomorrow 10am CEST.
If you own any package... if you're an alpha or beta tester..

pfff... That much for "open" beta. Never seen any game before require a purchase to access open beta. What's the difference then between closed and open beta's here?

Plus, seems like a bad business decision. How are they planning to attract new players to the game?

Characters will not be wiped after open beta.
So basically it is official start of the game, and you have to pay to play.

If i remember correctly the game will have 2 system/maps: the first is where everyone spawn. Its an island with a f2p access, but a wipe system that will clear all the progressese periodically. If you purchase 1 ticket, you can leave that f2p island and go in the real game, where your progressese are saved and no wipe for the future. So, basically, you can test the game in the f2p island (with a low level cap on the skills) and if you like it you can buy a ticket for the real game... am i correct?

This is not "open beta". This is called head start. Open beta means open to everyone.

your understanding of what open beta means is false.
this is open beta, Open Beta means the MMORPG / MMO is released and available to the public. it does NOT mean that it is free for everyone to test, it means its available for everyone to register, which can mean purchasing access to complete registration for access.
Do not be fooled by what the bigger companies are doing what basicly is more of a pre-release demo instead of a beta test.

all the games you see on steam with the tag "early acces" are open beta because the game is available to the public... and not all of those games are free.

difference between closed and open is that for closed beta there is limited acces and (most of the time)stricter NDA

It is. Open beta does not mean "free beta", as many people have become predisposed to. In this case you need to buy-in to join it, but anyone in the world may do so and gain all the added perks associated. Once the game is live, then people will be able to get the client via Steam and then choose if they wish to go to the mainland by buying a ticket, however they will not receive any of the benefits of buying a beta starter pack which are rather significant.

Yeah...no. Open Beta has ALWAYS meant free access. The "open" designates availability to everyone. It's usually a limited time and similar in function to a single player game demo.

If you have to pay to gain access then it's an early access or head start program. It is NOT open beta. Open Beta goes back into the 90's. You can't start changing it now just because it doesn't suit you.

open in open beta means not per-selected closed group

quote from urban dictionary "Open Beta is the stage of devolopment where you have to Pre-Purchase the game to have the privelege to test it for any final bugs."

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define. ... pen%20Beta

its USUALLY also means free access but its NOT part of definition
