Current Ore Locations

Post by Terminus_Zaire » 04 Jul 2014, 02:20

I'm throwing this discussion up to see what people have to say.

What do you think of prospecting now that ore has been properly placed in the world? Is it too common? Still not common enough? Do you believe this will have a good or bad impact on game popularity?

Do any game mechanics need to change now that it's easier to find ore?

What do you mean it is easier? It is working exatly as it was supposed. Even if you prospect, you still have to dig in there.

Couldn't try out much last test, but it looks fine for me.

It can be interesting to see on the long term how difficult it will be to find new ore veins, when the easy ones are gone.

We found surface veins but have only mined a grand total of 2 tiles worth because that's already tons of iron.

We will not be able to tell the effect of the loss of non renewable resources for a long time this question is impossible to answer.

Non-renewable resources brings up a slew of issues that we'll have to see and solve in the future, as Proximo said. Currently I feel it takes to long to get to iron nodes, we spent around six hours (two to three players digging continuously) prospecting around one vein. Still haven't found it (it's within four tiles, apparently.) I don't think the issue is LACK of resources, as we know one 'block' of iron is a massive amount of mined ore. It's really the outrageous time commitment it takes to find and mine down to the node itself, as surface veins are rare and good for those lucky few. I'm sure we'll see tinkering in the future with terraforming times.

Apparently mining surface metal doesn't raise the mining skill, only terraforming? So you must mine below to get to smelting etc, right?
