Patch 0.2.8.1 Discussion

Post by Atlantis » 05 Dec 2014, 13:05

lif-yo-early-alpha-version-0-2-8-1-t6350/

New Patch, I even have not played with the last patch and suddenly a new one appeared! GJ devs, well played.
Anyway, I want to open a discussion for the new patch, aswell as ask here if someone can confirm a fix for combat and increased performance :D

These 2 currrently keep me from playing again (these and those unimplemnted/blocked skills).

Been derping around on a privateserver right now, the new graphics-settings Menue is quite good and you can definitely make the game run absolutely lagfree (at least on private servers with next to no terraforming done, I know thats the problem initially)

Since you can change the way how many trees are fully rendered now and you can activate object fading (which isn't actually "fading" them out but more like replacing the trees with cardboarddummys that impact less on performance) I think that will really help out some people.

Didn't get to see if hit detection works better now because weirdly there were no animals on my server (even on highest spawnsetting)

Hitting targets with either melee or ranged feels more right than it was before, still not perfect but a marked improvement.

Liking the Equipped Items drop stuff. Helps prevent the cowardly log out or run out into the ocean.

For those complaining about not being able to log out with your stuff, um, yeah you can. Just not equipped. Takes 2 minutes to drag it from your paperdoll into your inventory. You just can't play the chicken and do a quick quit when you get attacked to save your equipped weapons and tools. Your armor and inventory items are kept however.

Haven't played with the xbow rooting when reloading thing, but sounds like a good change in my opinion. Hopefully this also fixes the fire, leave combat mode, enter combat mode to reload issue. We'll see.

It's not the equiped items that will drop, but the item you carry on your back, like chairs, crates, barrels..

To be honest, I don't get why people are complaining about that then. I would even have been happy with the idea Willbonney kind of unintentionaly presented. So many fights that stopped because that bad guy could run into the water and be safe from every harm. Even bows won't help since they would stop as soon as they touch the water.

If I were to guess, they were placing items in barrels/chests/etc... and picking the containers up before logging out as a way to 100% secure items/materials.

Lol, thought about doing that last night. Players do need a secure means of keeping the gear they cannot put in their backpacks secure before they can make steel for a lockable home.

You've obviously never been homeless, which is how players in LIF start out. Myself neither, closest being living out of a car for a couple weeks in between places, but I do know a homeless person, or one just living in a shack, has a pretty hard time securing his personal possessions. Whatever he doesn't keep on his person or hidden, will likely get it taken away from him. Even on him, things get stolen pretty often, mostly because a homeless person is an easy target.

It's the same in LIF. Life is hard, as is feudal life.

Yeah bit of a pain for people before warehouse.

I suggest floating the barrel/chest or whatever you have into a tree's branches. damn near impossible for anyone to find that doesn't know where to look.

Very good tip, I like it. Just leave an edge of the barrel viewable, like a squirrel hiding his nut. Awesome.

Can anyone post a more detailed comment on combat now? What's it like now? Much more accurate? I've been holding off buying this until I hear good things about the combat...

Just because it needs to be at the top of the list again above all the spam.
