The lake is drying up

Post by Rokurota » 13 Dec 2014, 01:13

The lake is drying up. Is anyone else having this problem?
On the bright side, I have a lot of beach front property.

Indeed this can happen. As you take water from the lakes, the water level goes down. It takes a rather significant amount before you notice a difference, but it occurs.

At the moment this is mostly due to not having true weather effects, as in rain, to refill the water supply or rivers that will constantly replenish.

It will still be a while before rain, drought, and possibly flooding and waterflow are put in the game, but much of the framework seems to be there.

I've only taken 10 units of water from the lake. I've taken about
30 fish from the lake. The lake seems to be drying up on it's own.

Hmm, honestly I've never fished from the lake. Possibly fishing is also included in the available resources of a water unit, not sure. I'll monitor the server side code next time I get a chance to play.

Is it true that harvesting water actually reduces the water level?

I thought there were no hydrodynamics in the game, and water just exists below 0 on the height axis.

I've seen much longer beaches on servers that had multiples doing a bit of tanning. Thin leather takes 3 thick leather takes 4. I'm uncertain if the water is a finite resource when drawing from the water. Is kind of what I plan on monitoring. It's certainly not a terrain type.

Edited to Add: Lot of clay stuff takes water too.

Impossible. Water is always at the same level, there are NO water dynamics. Could you provide a screenshot ?

Looks normal to me. just see if it fits the map (walk near the water and look on the map : it should show you as in water, because map does not update on terrain changes) to be sure.

I created World 2 to see the water level of the lake before I started getting water and fishing. The water level is the same as in World 1.
I'm embarrassed I was so mistaken. Sorry for the confusion.

If that's normal, guess I'm just not used to living by the lake. The beaches on the main island edges are all much much smaller than that.

As for server side, indeed, not seeing anywhere that the code tracks water as a resource, just does the quality check.
