ok so I just got this game... so please forgive the noob question.


I have made most primitive tools. (fishing is not my strong point)

so while out looking for ore to mine.. i found a node or 2 that were on the surface. no need to dig a tunnel. (i did dig down) to get the ore node.. but for some reason my skill has not increased. I have about 450 iron ore. that I can not use.. cause my mining skill has not increased. at all still at 0.

My question .. is why has my skill not increased. what am i doing wrong?

I assume you've choosen "dig tunnel". Try instead to right-click on the location you'd normally dig and take "mining".

Mining - can only be done inside of a mine.

When you get ore from the outside by tunneling rock, it won't raise mining skill, just terraforming.

If you keep tunneling the rock it will eventually break, leaving a square-ish area exposed, and most likely one or more of the surfaces in it will have ore (since you were getting it from the surface rock)

click that to get Mining on the menu and mine the ore.

~ just note that more and more servers every day are Banning mining and tunnelling completely, as it causes incurable ever-increasing lag.
