Reasonable stats:
- Skill cap: In our experience, this game is best enjoyed with friends (or perhaps cooperative rivals, depending on your backstory)! Our 800 skill cap allows players to dabble with more than one profession, but still encourages them to work together to achieve their goals. This makes for a more realistic, and cooperative, game.
- 2x skill multiplier: The 2x multiplier helps us maintain a balance between making players grind too much, and making skill progression too easy. You can get the skills you want within a reasonable amount of time, but it is still impressive when you achieve grandmastery.
- Decay for maintenance only: Roleplay is our number one priority, so we want to give people the opportunity to have a shack in the woods or a sprawling city! Those who do not wish to put down a claim will have temporary monuments placed for them when we turn on decay for maintenance, and removed when decay is turned back off.
- One character limit: To help with realism on the server, players are only allowed one character. Players may delete and remake their character at any time, and admins are happy to change names (so long as you are not doing it to avoid roleplay consequences).
The number one thing that sets us apart is the way we treat the GM system. Our GMs are there to help community members and create events, not give themselves a roleplay advantage or further their own cause. Here are just a few of the ways we maintain a fair system:
- GMs use a separate character to use GM mode and run events.
- GMs do not spawn things for themselves; in the event that they need GM assistance, they must request it from another GM who is not in their guild.
- GMs may not rule on a conflict if their guild is involved in that conflict.
- GMs will not spawn items or buildings outside of the designated areas - Aspendale and Divinity Peak - unless it is for an event. Events are always open to the public.
- Reporting to GMs is done through a ticket system on our website; this allows us to gather all the necessary information in one place, and ensure anonymity.
Realistic Roleplay:
With roleplay as our number one priority, we have worked hard to decrease the amount of metagaming.
- No in character interactions in global: Since people rarely communicated telepathically in feudal times, we believe it is not in the spirit of roleplay to communicate in-character through global.
- Roleplaying, trading, and recruiting must all be done in person, through local chat. Those wishing to trade may travel from town to town with their wares, otherwise they may bring them to market day, which takes place in Aspendale twice a week.
- Roleplay-based map: Again, feudal cartographers were rarely psychic. To be included on the map, you must first join your town to the main road, then roleplay with a cartographer to explain the boundaries of your land.
- Frequent and diverse events: We have regular events that are designed to appeal to a multitude of players. You can join us at the player-run market day, compete in a tournament in the Aspendale arena, or regain your alignment through piety quests.
- We do not have a scheduled judgment hour, but will allow for warring guilds to siege once they have won a field battle. See our combat rules for further information.
- We have a few mods implemented to enhance roleplay on the server, and will be implementing client side Basilmod soon! We are always happy to look at suggestions for mods and working with Basil to get mods to suit our needs.
Community focus:
As much as we want a realistic feudal setting, we also want to have fun and promote community. We have no tolerance for trash talk, trolling, and taking in-character conflict to out of character. Racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise derogatory comments will result in an instant ban. We care deeply about what the community wants and welcome feedback or suggestions through our forums. We communicate primarily through the forums on rpclif.com and through our Discord channel.
