Why have you removed ability to refine metals?

Post by Samuelcomplex » 06 Jan 2017, 11:21

3 Patches ago you removed the ability to refine metals through crafting/recycling. Recycling an item now gives you lower quantity AND lower quality. Completely removing the usefulness of recycling while at the same time making it nigh impossible to get higher quality metal items.

Why?

Because there was never mechanic to "refine" metals, or making hammers with bad metal and a stick would count as refining?

So there was simply exploit that was never taken care of as there was no MMO that it can screw with. So for the MMO it was fixed and now for good q metal you need to find good q metal mine instead of recycling over and over 10q metal to make it 100q.

Recycling is made to get some metal back from broken tools, weapons and armors to make another tools (like shovels where quality doesn't matter), bolts for training the crossbows or nails.

+1 here, I understand that the "refining" mechanic as it existed was not originally intended, but it is sorely missed. In the late game, metal is now the only thing limiting the quality of what we produce, besides jewelry (where it makes sense for rarity to play a major role anyway).

Without an ability to refine metals (which absolutely existed in the medieval era, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mining_an ... val_Europe), we're left with metal being the only commonly consumed material that we can't consistently get to 100 Q through hard work and determination. We can improve tree quality above what we find in the world. We can improve animals. We can even improve the dirt! Why can't we improve metals?
