Prehistory. Looking for a continent name!

Post by Bobik » 04 Aug 2011, 16:28

Well, topic says it all - here you can read a prehistory of our world and get yourself familiar with major events of our game world history.

And, as you might've noticed, we call newly discovered continent "a new land". That's not really good, i'd say. So we're open for your suggestions about continent name. Feel free to post your name options, discuss them, rework and whatever you like. If there will be 2-4 major name options born in discussions - we can make a poll for them.

Give a name to our hope!

Just to put it out there, one of the main ideas I had for the continent name was something perhaps like "Asteria" after Asterius. Other ideas were a little bit corny (such as The Land of Gold) or just random (vaguely fantastical) names.

Well, my clan made up our name, we like it, and have wanted a game to use it for some time.

The name is Glendor.
We have given it many meanings, but its original, thats the important part.

My personal suggestion is made from the Anglo-Seaxon word 'fyrd', which translates as 'a journey' or 'an expedition'. Thus my proposal is;

Fyrdland

...I'll have a further think and see what else I can come up with.

Seeing as the game is set to be largely historical yet somewhat fictional, I would suggest Great names of ancient places. I myself love the story of Brittain and would love to see something like Dumnonia or Siluria. But on the fictional side, something of an old language that would be suitable to the genre that would have its own meaning. Dun Caric or Mai Dun I find are nice. Although Those are more suitable for cities I would think a little research may prove useful.

*Will Edit more suitable names as I think of them*

Azhara or Ahzara or steal some names from game of thrones. That book sure has some nice names.

You should also rename this game of yours. Dosnt sound very attractive at all.

I'd say we call our continent "The Mighty Azarah's land" and rename our project to "kewl MMORPG made for Azarah". Thank you for your valuable advices, oh great Azarah :lol: :P ;)

A whole continent should have a epic name. Or a subtle reference to something. I like subtle references.

I suggest something original and unused... Something new in gaming world, i made it a while ago for a City in a Minecraft Roleplay city.

Lakoheve

LAnd = Land
Kohta = Of
eventyr = Adventure

It can have modifications.

I agree with this. When ancient explorers found new lands, they often named those places after themselves, e.g. America being named for Amerigo Vespucci. Perhaps Asterius named the lands after his father, Gaius, or even his grandfather, Titus? If the land is truly as "kingly" as the explorers describe it, perhaps Asterius's last name could be used, as Rex is latin for "king"? Unfortunately I'm horrible at names but I'll try to contribute something.

Yes, I also agree with this line of thought. But I first thought about Brychon. If it is NOT known to all people that he was bribed, then I wouldn't say that's a bad name to start working with. Later in game historicists could discover the truth and change the name to honor the king.

So, let's see...
GaiUS Rex
TitUS Rex
AsteriUS Rex

Eventually Brychon.

So, names:
...Gaia ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)
Gastitos (somewhat 3 names combined)
Asteris ? Too similiar to Asterix maybe.
Brychonia
Rexosia
Asterosia
Titosia

I used to write about a fictional land and I named it Corayun (sounds like Coor Ay Yoon). I like that suggestion of the nordic style name as well.

You can called MU, its an ancient continent, maybe the first continent.

Erset La Tari, sumerian name for "Land of no return".

You can also called Ashtar, Vimana.
