Here are my 2 cents worth of suggestions

- Perendinah (Perr-end-eena)

- Nalthea (Nal-theea)

- Galdronea (Gal-thron-ea)

- Merendinah (Merr-end-eena)

- Kathersia (Kather-seea)

- Dolmenee (Dol-me-nee)

- Therbrook (Ther-brook)

Whatever it will be I agree that the New World SHOULD have a name, as it would be kind of realistic that the late King would have called it something - and that his Queen, now present in the lands - would have carried on using it after she came here with the emigrants of the old continent.

But I am fine with either :D

Some really great suggestions throughout this thread though I must say
"The enemy of my enemy - is my friend"

What about a name that conveys the message that it is a newly discovered land such as:
New Beronia

I would say we shouldnt choose according to some real language.
I would prefer to many names for the continent. But if I had to choose I would name it how a great empire named it or perhaps after a great leader who is legendary and idolized throughout the continent.

I think it should either be named after the Emperor, or after a hero of the Empire. My other suggestion would be from the latin words for "new land", which is "novo terra", it could be Novoterra, Novoteria, Novoterria.

Main point: New lands and regions always have a female name in western culture, and all lands have a female personification/goddess, Britannia, Germania, Italia, Francia, etc etc

Old thread and it's prolly been resolved by now, but here goes anyway.

I'm not fluent in Old English, but some research came up with these:
Westengold (Prefix "westen" means wilderness; Suffix "gold" means gold, fittingly enough. I figure it implies a hostile and savage place that holds untold riches, but don't quote me on it.)
Westengryre (Means something awful that lives in the wilderness, but it sounded neat I guess.)
Eleland (Foreign country)
Elsenland (Stuffed an S in there for whatever reason)
Elwesten (See above; Based off Elewesten, "Foreign wilderness", though Elwesten comes off the tongue better.)
Ferhgrimland (Based on the adjective "ferhþgrim", meaning savage)
Aelfolc (I think it can mean a foreign land, but it might also mean foreigners)

Meanwhile, here's some utter BS gibberish that might inspire those who are better at lore and naming:
Aeglian
Dyrae
Dranhyden
Corvall
Sanwallen
Pyraxes
Auros
Tovelladonis
Laminor
Anlaeic
Astirus
Izelan
Dunmorra
Fildrech
Gildenwald
Reghed
Essylich
Amphodeous

What would be really fun is allowing a player group to choose a name from a list.

How I imagine this working, is that despite colonization, land names do not solidify until years after occupation, thus, an influential player-group may have the option to name the continent after launch!

How this could go down is in a number of ways: such as first group to a certain level of authority and citizens

The method at the forefront of my mind would involve the use of an NPC leader, and RP'ing that certain player-groups are earning favor, in some way, to eventually influence the NPC leader—the queen I believe. Ultimately, the queen's decision would solidify the continent name for the population at large!

:) What do ya'll think?

No NPC leader - Just simply grow you city and its influence and your authority etc and then you may Name a region and/or city. After that if others in the region have problems they can come try to kill you and occupy the capital city of the region and rename it themselves....if they succeed

I once invented a Pen&Paper Roleplaying world named

"GORDONIA"

The name had no origin but just sounded pretty good...

It was a new world, full of woods, Mountains and wilderness inhabited by normads and pagan tribes ...

The new LIF- Land should be seen like the wild nordic lands of Lithuania and others around, before chistian Orders and Kings conquered them...so every new faction can decide what kind of faction they would like to be...for example an inhabitant tribe or a knightly Kingdom with a Duke or a King...

What if guilds could name locations and the map to their own liking.

Right now my team of folks have agreed upon names for some of the geographical landmarks and use them as reference points. It would be nice if we could mark a map for the guild to see the names, and future members to also see them.

maybe 2-3 smaller continents divided by sea would better than 1 giant pangea and lots of smaller islands seperated on the ocean. And first player who land to one of the continents or islands have a right to rename it

R. A. Whiting wrote:Just to put it out there, one of the main ideas I had for the continent name was something perhaps like "Asteria" after Asterius. Other ideas were a little bit corny (such as The Land of Gold) or just random (vaguely fantastical) names.

Asteria sounds pretty good to me. Then players can name kingdoms, regions and cities/villages.
