To Killboard or Not Killboard

Post by ThorneRazeri » 03 Nov 2016, 16:25

What are your thoughts on having a kilboard for the MMO to track player kills? It is a popular feature in EvE, with the actual currency losses tracked to see who 'won' fight.

Should we have request something similar in LIF-MMO? If so, what should it track?

On the plus side, a kill-board is usually much clearer on who won a fight, and which guild/alliance owns the other.

One possible problem that I foresee is that spawn camping will 'run up' the kill totals. In EvE folks will not hesitate to kill those running around in shuttles, newbie ships or anyone who is out-matched for a fight. We shouldn't penalize folks for killing some poor crafter who was overburdened and minding their own business. But neither should we treat it as an evenly matched fight either.

So really, there has to be some sort of info within the kill-board for equipped gear, weapons used, and loot dropped.

Further, the kill-board shouldn't just record who had the final blow. It should keep track of everyone who has done some damage within the last few minutes. As well as which guild the players was in at the time.

The issue with all of this is the extra overhead cost to the server. I wouldn't want this to slow the performance. Perhaps its a non-issue.

Or it could just record the kills for instanced field battles and sieges, where both sides of the conflict would be theoretically evenly matched, or at least aware that they are fighting someone.

I would say that Eve has a lot of those issues covered... Shuttle kills and etc have no real value in points or ISK.

No reason a similar setup cannot be done here... Kill an overburdened crafter filled with dirt and tools, sure you get a kill but it has no value. Kill a fighter equiped with full plate and several weapons, you get a large number of points to add.

That does not consider something like a shuttle kill full of time cards... or in this case, a miner with an inventory of gold... That would just be chalked up to dumb, and a good kill.

Revising this thread as something that would increase conflict opportunities as requested by Bobik in his last review.

Keeping scores will promote killing.
Especially the Newbies will take the hit. That in turn will make the game hard to get into, hence less incoming new players. We NEED new players if you plan to enjoy this game much longer.

Kill-score is a good idea, but ONLY on the Battlefields in proper Guilds initiated wars.

It is possible to record what players were wearing and using for weapons (though in YO getting the killing weapon didn't seem possible through the database). As Xeen said, you could then classify that as appropriate.

Better still, providing an API call so players could build their own Killboard would be even better.

I think a score board for guilds was mentioned in the past that will have impact on coin value 2

that sounds more apropiate for this game than single player achievements
