Oak Chronicles: Something Ends, Something Begins
The city of Verna was founded in 1030 by small group of survivors – led by one of the first people on Abella, Dhollansa Stark. It grew and prospered, till one day Dhollansa mysteriously disappeared. Then Tashka Zelena, a peasant woman who served Dhollansa, suddenly usurped authority in her dirty hands and proclaimed herself the Shadow Queen. She led people to the south to fight on the side of the pigdogs during Great World War
. Although many obeyed her out of fear, one of the Nothern lords, Nazeef The Teetotaler, Dhollansa's kinsman, found the strength to rebel and went to the service of Lord Barton together with his men. They became glorious knights of the Holy Oak and started fighting on the other side, proclaiming Nazeef as the rightful ruler of Verna.
In 1032, the war was won by the Coalition of Free People of Abella; for the most part, the pigdogs were hunted down and defeated. Although the victory had cost the life
of Lord Barton, Lord Stark had better luck - after the Shadow Queen was expelled from the North, he went there and took the city of Verna back under his rule. In the ruins, he met his old friend Crixius "The Jester" Barefoot – a man of complicated destiny, too weird to live, and too rare to die. Even though Crixius's participation in the Great World War had been to betray both Shadow Queen and Lord Barton, for some reason Nazeef believed he wouldn’t do the same with the man Crixius was linked with by a common past. But life is feudal, and instead of helping with Verna's restoration, The Jester betrayed him, stole his gold and spent it to build his own city - Riva, the weird and soulless copy of Laketown. Moreover, Holy Oak scouts spotted Tjoerk Blaublut
there - Crixius was the one who provided shelter to the most wanted (and most despicable) criminal in all of Abella.
Befallen by deep sorrow, Nazeef went to the mountains to find reason to continue his fight. This time, he was lucky once again, because he suddenly found his dear Dhollansa herself! The details of her disappearance and locating remain secret, but today they happily rule in Verna - or rather look after architectural and historical monument, spending their time in former Tashka's town hall, which became The Tavern of Broken Dreams - one of the most hospitable places of Abella. Verna became a Holy Oak vassal and the sacred sprout of the Holy Tree grew there.
This ends the story of Nazeef, but another story begins - a story which won’t end as long as both traitors are still alive.
