get the game

Add Paper/writing/maps/cartographer skill.

301
Simple as the title says. Add paper and tools to write with to send messages to your allies "realisticly" or leave messages on a "message board" about what needs to be done for the camp or for example there is a message board next to the blacksmiths shop and when you are on you leave notes on his board like orders what needs to be made and such.
Make maps that can be edited like a specific kingdom/guild can mark enemy positions or anything similar. And ofc the skill to make the maps/even paper.
Could allso add "seals" that allow a paper to be sealed by a high rank person with a seal ring or similar so we know messages are comming intact.
Possibilities are endless.

Yes. Since my post about skill progression is largely ignored I decided to instead add my 2 cents to already existing suggestions/requests.
This is a great idea. First of all, one great appeal in any sandboy game is exploration. LiF HAS TO feature a large map when it realeases so people can go and explore. But that means no preexplored map. So the ability to draw maps, mark information on them and trade those maps can be important. Also the writing/seals, etc can be really good for immersion. Also if religion gets a larger role, let's say you can form your own religion and gain bonuses, creating religious texts, runes, etc, or stealing those can be another layer of gameplay which benefits the game.
And if recipes/writs/plans/tomes of technique could get into the game (read my suggestion on the forums if you will) then again, writing coudl be important.

Also this would mean that someone has to produce the quils, paper and ink for these, yet another layer.

So in short, yes, yes and oh hell yes.

I would like the ability to write down my recipes or pass notes to other Kingsmen when they log on and I am not on. Something I could post on the monument, or there doors?

I've also written a post about this. I really like to have mapmaking and the preceding paper/writing skill, it could also precede mentoring I think, so a teacher must also be able to read/write in order to gain his knowledge / pass it better.

    Mapmaking:
To be able to create stategic maps, a resource map or a battle plan or even just a simple marker, my base is here would be great. The map additions would occur on your map option as a layer that can be enabled or disabled, but only if you carry the map.

You should be able to copy maps or notes, but it will take time and require paper or parchment, made from thin leather as it was in those times.

Also the ability to leave an instruction note in a chest for new members would be a nice feature that would be made possible by this.

I like also the idea of declarations or messages to other guilds.

So, in short, you have my vote!

    Great idea, no question.

Especially the Maps are interesting. Would be great to be able to mark positions and so on. Even to create a Map of a Settling or a city.

I think this is a great idea and if they put Taverns in, it would make them more realistic as well. I especially like the whole letting people know if there are things that they could help with like orders to fill or things that are for sale or if there is a criminal with a bounty on his head in the area. I also would like to be able to write a diary in game of my adventures and add maps of places I have been or places to avoid.

The Carpenter might create a Frame which is used for geting each sheet out of a tanning tube. Whriting with a feather and Tinte as a rare fish ingredience and pin notes on moveable Containers, doors or pinboard with nails ...

    - Pinboard could be double-sided. One side just for Claim-Members, one for public reading.
    - some skill should be needet ... and as mostly the clerus was able to read and write, the Monks Outfit get it´s sense in the game.

Sounds like a great idea to me and most of the items ARE implemented yet.

It would also give the Architect skill an aditional option: Predesigned Buildings from "Architects" which can be builded by a mason. So you could let your "own house, fortress what ever" be planed by an Architect, without doing it yourself.
