Different road styles and bridges

97
So far there is only one type of road buildable. It would be nice if there were other road types like dirt tracks, cobblestone roads and gravel walks. Piers and different kinds of bridges should also be implemented.

I really like the idea, but i fear this can only be a post-release concern.

I thought there was two? Clay and stone, never made a clay road yet, but the old loading tips mentioned it, although clay tiles are less bonus so no one would really use them other then for show anyways...

I didn't know that there was a clay road, but it makes no difference, it would be nice to have more options. I also made another request for a more realistic landscape and natural barriers (read more). Roads should not increase your walking speed but rather reduce/negate movement penalties on a certain terrain. or make it possible to pass through forests with big bulky carts.

You can build dirt and gravel tracks all day long, just no official naming of it, no skill other than terraforming for dropping it, and no movement bonus for it (why would there be). I've also seen, and built myself, several quays. So they're already there if you have the imagination.

Bridges we'll only ever need if we see rivers, the distance between the two islands on the one map we have now would be too great I would think (you can still build a land bridge if you have the time and inclination and pave it exactly like the quay). Piers would also only have a use if they do include ships.

I'm all for all of it, but only if it has a purpose. A bridge for a river I have to dig or a dock waiting for a ship that will never come is wasted development time.

So you have 7 road types, but 1 is the best/fastest travel inc.. so thats the only one you build.

TBH if you want difrent roads try building roads like I do:

Flat whole or half number ploughed soil only, 4 wide, with trees and lamp posts on the sides:::

Start by flatting to a whole nr or half -1 (like 11.9, or 12.4 or 12.9... etc) make said location 4 wide for the length of the whole road, slope down or up at same level.
Add 1 forest soil on both outer sides (so the nr 1 and nr 4 tiles)
Then flatten then flatten these fully plant Birch trees every second tile on ether side of the road (ether across from each other or skip style) the pave the 2 centre tiles.
Place 1 lamp post for every 6 tiles in skip style (first 1 side of road, then other side)
Every 500 M or so, make a way station, with a fountain/well a few fruit trees and a bench or two ..

It looks totally different from your run of the mill paved road trust me... its just frustrating to make it from 1 end of the island to the other :p

What you describe is nothing groundbreaking, just simple terraforming to create something that looks like a road. In principle, that solution is nothing but a workaround. Also, this idea is not an entire road but simply the foundation of one. Equipping a road with lamp posts wouldn't be reasonable or realistic (oil lamps should burn out and would then have to be refilled) as it would use up a lot of energy. In addition, what you're describing is a specific type of road, i.e. an avenue. The ability to pave has already been implemented; so why not build on that?

Of course you'll prefer the fastest or best type of road, but that'll also be the most expensive one. Different types of road styles would serve to beautify your environment, not only as a way to travel faster. As I wrote in an earlier comment, roads should be the only possibility for carts to move through certain terrains with reasonable speed.

As another idea, road claims could be introduced, as guilds should be able to collect duty fees for using their roads.

Here are a few pictures about what i have in mind:

I'd like an immensely long bridge of stone, so too can wood, each section is built separately which
and the Builder to be already built sections of the bridge..

Another great advantage of using tablets for work is their long battery life. Tablets come with large batteries that allow them to be used for extended periods of time without needing recharging. This makes tablets an ideal solution for professionals who need to stay connected for long periods of time without having to worry about their device running out of power. https://workusingtablets.com/best-tablet-for-procreate/
