Village/Town/City Alarm System

96
Howdy Folks,

In the past I have written on this topic in different topics of the Suggestion Forums. I feel it will be an important feature for both the MMO as well as the LiF:YO servers, to implement a sort of manually operated alarms for the communities. These alarms could be used mainly for the purpose of alerting residents of the presence of aggressors, but they could also have a variety of uses. Examples of different Alarms I have come up with so far are as follows, in order of volume.

1. Bell Tower - A large steel or cast iron set of bells to be rung. This would be a permanent building normally located within a town's walls.

2. Signal Fire Tower - A large stone pillar topped with a large amount of wood and kindling to be lit that would give off a large amount of light. This would be a permanent structure that would need to be refueled after use. Once lit would burn for 4-6 in game hours. Would be used to alert nearby residences and other communities of danger.

3. Personal Horns - Horns when used by a player gives a sound of alarm to the area. Could be used as both a defensive warning as well as providing signals to coordinate an army.

I would like to see this idea implemented in the future! The personal horn idea is great too, communication with your team is vital to any battle - unique horns that can be crafted would be the way to go. So you don't get confused with the enemy's horns!

Wouldn't it be cool to see like a Great Wall of China fire lighting along the walls to alert the tower etc!

The idea of signal structures is good. But these buildings will not have that signal without the players. On our server some settlements on the walls the guards constantly on duty to alert everyone in case of an attack.

I think it would be nice to have a building that notified you when someone was trespassing. Even if you had to pay....ingots or something to simulate paying the neighborhood riffraff to sit up in the tower and let you know if someone coming. They have the whistle command but that only works if someone sees the trespasser. Everyone essentially looks the same in the game as you can not change the color of clothes; definitely need a better system to notify people who don't belong.

I like the Idea of a horn, and you could have 3-4 different crafting options for pitch/size. For example, small light horns that can travel short distances and have a high pitch, vs large heavy horns that have a low pitch and can travel long distances. The horns should also be able to play various notes (eg 5 notes) in a 2-4 second horn blast that the player chooses as he/she blows the horn. That way they could have custom signals for the various messages that they want to send (we are under attack, i need help/i found something, visitors approaching, marco/polo, attack, retreat...)

As far as the value of these in a world with teamspeak/ventrilo: You cant always expect that your guild members will be on TS/V or in your channel. And other guild members will never be in your TS/V. If you walk up to a closed city gate, it would be nice to have a loud way to request entry. Also TS/V doesn't tell you direction, where an in-game generated noise would be able to be found by following the direction of the noise.

Yes, I agree! Bells would be nice...
    "church-bell"
City-bell (like on a small wooden Tower or Frame)
A Gong perhaps for the southern Guilds
    And a Horn of course!!!
