It might just be aesthetic, but I'd really like to be able to build my roads all the way up to the doorsteps on all the houses.
I also think it's quite logical that the roads shouldn't just go past the house. That every time they went outside they had to way through mud to get to the dry road. Especially if they were the ones who built it.
I've tried laying down the roads before I built the house, but sometimes the latter removes the road underneath. Besides, doing it in that order makes no sense.
