Self Defense without Alignment Penalty

5
Had an individual attach my horse with a pick and as I rode off, he perused. I ran him down with the horse a couple of times and he continued attacking. I finally hopped off my horse and killed him with my crossbow. I took a 10-point alignment hit for this. If someone fires off the first blow and continues to attack, why did I take an alignment hit for defending myself? The original hit was on the horse and not my character, but that should not matter. Can this be reconfigured?
Thank you and keep up the good work devs.

Agreed, in fact alignment penalties need work in general.

This shouldn't even have to be a suggestion, this should have already been implemented into the game. I understand maybe losing SOME alignment for killing in self defence, but it should be EXTREMELY small in comparison. I know that they've implemented the temporary criminal aspect but it still doesn't work properly. So I agree with this tenfold.

Defending yourself shouldn't be penalized. Someone defending their property, defending their animals or defending their family, allies or their person should NEVER result in an alignment hit. This is common sense.

I can already imagine the trolls starting alts. The troll locates their targeted individual, logs on their alt and then attacks their foe, trying to get their targeted foe to defend themselves just so the person defending themselves takes an alignment hit. Obviously one player is intending evil and the other is only intending on preserving their well being. The person trying to preserving their well being should never be penalized. That's wrong on multiple levels.

It's socially accepted in any genre or in any era that someone defending themselves or defending their property against physical harm is morally just and on the side off "
"good" or "right" where as the aggressor is in the wrong. This needs to be properly reflected in game.
