LiF Herbalism/Alchemy tool

Post by Tajin » 07 Oct 2014, 11:42

Here is a little tool to help my fellow alchemists out there on their way to ultimate wisdom.:
http://rising.at/projekte/lif_alchemy/

It saves you from having to write drown every recipe and combination on paper and offers a few additional features:

1. Keep track of what effects you have discovered for each herb.
(this can be useful as the effects ingame are currently only shown when you put a herb in your mortar)

2. Keep track of which herbs you have already tested against each other.
(helps you to cut down the research time, by avoiding to try the same combinations twice)

3. List of herbs with names and images

A few things to note:
- You will need to use a modern browser for this.
- No login required.
- Your data and combinations are only saved local, as a cookie.
- You can copy/paste the data from the textfield at the top when you need to transfer it to a different browser/pc.

I'm planning to add a few more gimmicks to it later on. For example a search function and a recipe list.

Hope you'll find it helpful.

Very nice and useful! :Bravo:

Should be called a herbalism tool though cause the recipes fall under that skill which we can choose

Looks very useful, will test it today.
Thank you, Tajin!

Note: is it possible to mark a herb on a left if it has any of the properties marked? Or even show how many are marked (1-2-3).

Thank you!

I see that when you click on herb on a right side, it's background becomes green and record is appended to a data string. What's going on there?

Right, maybe that part needs a description of some sort.

The list on the right is mainly used when you're still researching your herbs.

It allows you to mark the herbs that you have already tested against the currently selected one.
That way, you can avoid wasting time by trying the same combination twice.
(the currently selected herb is grayed out since you can't combine it with itself)

Hey Tajin, I know this is almost a year ago now but I thought I'd give some feedback.
This is still the best tool I have found for herbalism.

I have a few suggestions for you, it shouldn't be too hard to do.
  1. Color all herbs that have a shared property a different color (magenta?).
Have it override the green color of "tested combination".
  2. When a herb has all 3 property discovered, color all other herbs that has all 3 property discovered green (or something).
This is because there is no need to test a combination between two fully discovered herbs that don't share a property.
  3. Some of all the icons have been changed since the release, maybe you could update them to the new ones?
  4. A way to search by property.
For example, select "Flux" and all herbs that can be used to make "Flux" should be highlighted.
  5. A way to export the whole thing into something readable would be nice too.
Maybe just a simple CSV file format with each herb and its properties.

Just want to point out to the devs, the fact that players had to develop a third party tool to be able to use the herbalism system should raise a red flag and point out the herbalism system is very flawed.

There are some very good ideas for improving this in the features area, please look at those, this is one of the glaring flaws in the game.

I downloaded the page and messed around with them in NotePad++.
I actually learned a little more Javascript! Go me!

Well, I found a way to implement point #1 and #2 on my list of suggestions. Works nicely. ^^

Only part I have no clue about is the cookie stuff.
So I currently can't load anything into it.

I was thinking of tossing it on GitHub or something, but would like permission before I do anything like that.
But I guess I can share a zipped copy on my edited version if anyone wants it.

Hi guys. I made my own tool, it make possible to use more efficient approach to discover herbs properties. Sorry me my english, it is bad, so, the next text will be pasted from google translator:

you can do two things in a program:
1) assign properties to herbs
2) filter herbs by properties

The program has two localizations: English and Russian. They are switched by the lower left button.

The properties of herbs can be set by double-clicking in any cell of the row.

this allows you to use a different approach than brute force.
there are 18 properties and 91 reagents. a complete enumeration of all reagents in pairs gives a crazy number of combinations. on the other hand, if you have herbs with each of the 18 properties, then a full enumeration of the properties will take 91 * 18 = 1638 combinations in the worst case.
The algorithm is as follows: you have a herb, the properties of which you do not know. But you have herbs with all 18 properties.
You set a filter for the first property in the program, and it shows which herbs have this property. You need to take an unknown herb and mix with one of the known ones with this property. Repeat this for the other 18 properties.

You can save the results of your research in order to continue them at another time.

I attach two archives to the post:
1) the application itself (portable version, does not require installation. Run and work)
2) source codes of the application for those who know, and who want to make their own modification.
3) link to gitlab for tough guys :
