HELP Windows server 2008 R2 x64

Post by Bellthazarr » 27 Jan 2015, 22:36

Hi guys.

I've taken my other desktop x4 core CPU and 4 gig ram, and installed a fresh copy of Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64. I can navigate and repair most any windows OS EXCEPT servers... I am totally new to working on a server PC and know almost nothing about it...

My question here is, is there any way anyone can find or create a video tutorial of how to set up a fresh installed OS server, and set up a LiF server on it?

I've looked and looked, and I can't seem to find anything that would really help me out...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you please include the type of server you are installing Server 2008 R2 on? dell, IBM.. Cisco? Also the model number would be helpful. Once we have that info I'm sure we can get you atleast up and running with a fresh install of Server 2008. As for the LIF server install, I'd have to look into that.

Well, its a Dell. I don't have all the specs for it atm, but after i learn/figure out how to use the server OS to host a LiF server, I'll be tearing it apart to take out/add some hardware so it will be a true server computer. (more hard drives, more ram, take out a CD-ROM, prep last CD rom for removal after OS re install - and any software i want installed, CPU upgrade if possible, bigger fans, better heat sink, etc, etc, etc) and I'll list them here for future reference. I know i didn't offer much info with this post, sorry.

Also, I was wondering... I've set a static IP, port forwarded, installed SteamCMD, downloaded the LiF server files, etc. set everything up like I would on a normal PC (like Windows 7 Ultimate) to host a server. Is that all you do on a Server OS? pretty much like you would on a regular OS? through my google searches I seen that a lot talked about making a VPN to do it. And should I be using Web Server, or one of the other server options? Sorry, I'm rambling lol - after I set up the LiF server and got everything ready, when I went to test it, I received and error code - Unable to start correctly (0xc0150002) .

I've set up servers on normal OS's quite a few times, and have never had a problem. I used a HOW TO guide that really helped me a lot - http://youtu.be/FmQPGeR8gIg?list=PLmMtc ... GsuBN5ZdWx

When I go into the event properties for the error, this is the explanation it shows - <em> Activation context generation failed for "C:\SteamCMD\life is feudal\QtCore4.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis. </em>

I got myself a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-Bit (Build 7601)

Though I have cd-keys for Windows Server 2008 Std/Ent KMS B
, so I can downgrade, to KMS, if that would help in the 32-bit Section, because I was thinking. If not all data is 64-Bit compatible yet.

Plus I was also thinking about the script to make it.

But Script needs to be made in 2 sections. A for 32-Bit, B for 64-Bit.

I needed to download :

Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (Installer)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=10986

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (Installer)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=23691

Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download ... x?id=40784 (Some would say, that it is just enough with VS2013, I have to disagree).

plus
DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... aspx?id=35

I was a little  about that. Oh well some 32-bit protocols are still good, so I am not complaining.

Though I am starting to have other problems, but that belongs in a different section. Ya All have a good day.

hugz cheers

VPNs slow down your internet speed but if you want to try for gaming check https://vpntrends.com and similar sites for reviews.. Expressvpn, Vypervpn these are some of the best for speed..

@ Bellthazarr:

Yes, you can manually set up on to make it work. Check out tutorials on open VPN.

@Peter John: Yes, agreed. I also use VPN for Windows mainly but mobile devices are really catching up now. That's also one of the primary concerns of Microsoft. That's also why they're trying so hard to penetrate mobile platforms despite failing time and again with the Windows mobile.

Have you tried a free VPN?
I use Windscribe and so far it is good. Have some limitations but still good for a minimal usage. See this list for 10 free windows vpn providers - https://www.vpnranks.com/free-vpn-for-windows-pc/

Windscribe and Proton vpn are great options for free of cost.
