Server migration - How to change server without loosing progress

Post by Matitaccia » 10 Sep 2017, 07:55

Dear all,

I'm trying to imagine how to proceed in migrating a server from one account to another: I'm going to write how I thought we could possibly do, but, as I'm not acquainted with SQL, never administered a server, I would like the feedback of others who may already encountered this issue.

Currently our server is hosted at gameservers.com: I have asked their support for help but their answer was:

Unfortunately we do not support the transfer of server or account ownership.

Therefore I thought to proceed that way:

Using one of the multiple suggestions available online (please post if you have one that you tested and know working correctly) make the backup of the database. The first result that Youtube gives me is the following one:

Code: Select all

Or

Code: Select all
https://abcgameservers.com/forums/threads/how-to-backup-and-restore-your-lif-yo-server.123/

Better suggestions?

Once we got the backup of the database I would open a new account (still on gameserver.com in order not to modify too many things at once) and, while the original server is still turned off, import the new database in the new server.

Would that work? Or am I missing some further detail? Or is there a better way to do that?

It is important to keep the same name of the server.

Thank you all for your feedback.
