upgrading houses/hostel purpose

6
my suggestion is to maybe fix the process of upgrading houses. when upgrading a house the residents are left homeless for the time being until the upgrade is complete, for me, the residents usually die before that ever happens, unless i assign 8 or so people to build the house quickly which i might not have at the time to spare. so what i suggest is, using the hostel strictly for homeless people instead of just a place for a mass of people to stay when there are plenty of houses to live in.

This, yes. After the first time I upgraded a house, and had all residents die, and research advised me that they'd starved because they can't eat without a home to eat in, I said to myself, "Aha! This explains the need for a hostel!" So, I built that big boy, and... immediate permanent tenants, which was bad, and 18 open slots in houses, which was worse.
As xeerox109 stated, this should be simple. IF homeless, move into hostel. No breeding. WHEN any other housing becomes available, THEN move into it.
Seriously, without this logic, the hostel is utterly pointless. If adding this AI is actually that difficult, then please, at least rename the hostel to "apartments", so that people stop screwing up their game based on faulty expectations.

I'd agree that any homeless should be able to use the hostel if there's room. No need to limit it to persons displaced by housing upgrades

Agreed, as long as, if/when there IS room elsewhere, hostel tenants move out. That will keep the hostel logical.
