Well... that does sound interessting... Building underground or at least on tunnel-floors, I agree with that. But a whole town? If this was more fantasy-based, I would agree. However, city is a definable term. But to claim a part of a tunnel as your home, like with a hut, would be cool. But that would forbid to further carve the walls.

I think being able to build like wooden/stone walls, even palisades would be cool to build underground. Even make a cave fort with beds, chairs fires, etc.

I agree with top comment, small areas with chairs and a lamp or what ever would be fine, but whole buildings and towns, no.

Living in a mine is, in real life, very harsh conditions, and this is definitly a place where you would want to live. Beside, we do not want this game to turn into dwarf fortress.. you can already put furnitures and stuff inside the tunnels, but no claims or buildings or house binding underground.

Even in real Life ppl builded stuff underground. Not exactly a wooden house, but they were able to build rooms into the Stonewalls.
Also parts of keeps were build like this. Would be cool if you could actually have some kind of "spezial Stone buildings".
The building itself didnt have closeable doors, so it could be an "open City crafted into Stone areals", but id like to have some kind of defendable Entrance for this then, like wooden palisades infront or so.

And to make this clear -> ITS NOT FANTASY! Fantasy took this from the real world! >.> fuck off dwars i dont want to live in a mine with goblins, but towns in stonewalls would be epic ;P

Also the first human lived in caves, so its actually the first housing system that ever existed even before shacks x)

But also if this will not be implemented since too many weirdos get this connected to "dwarfs" oh btw dwarfs build tunnels and mines pls delete them out of the game...

if not a stone city id like to see some kind of door for tunnels to protect your mines or atleast have some kind of thief hideout.

also some bushes would be nice that you can use to hide entrances and walls a lil and make the world all in all look a bit more alive and realistic.

... troglodytes (cave dwellers) are very common all around the world, and even in europe, in medieval europe too... for example, alonside the french river "la Loire", there are several troglodytes houses, from medieval era and still with living people in here...

i don't know if this i a good idea in the game, as we cannot build the house stone per stone but a premade house, in caves this functionnality may be very boring... who want to build a house with a roof top ?!

Sorry, but just no! I think they will implement hardening with beams, the could make possible to "harden" it with rocks like sewers you know, but buildings underground? Hell no!

We need to be able to place stuff underground. Chests, cats, barrels, and other basic items are essential and realistic. Need ways to store stuff inside mines.

I think that if they implement the modular building, it should become a thing to make stuff underground. Things like walls, gates, doors, pillars, are interesting to be placed inside caves, not full houses with roofs, that is too much fantasy oriented. Underground fortress, yes. Dwarven city with houses, no.

I read a feasibility report on underground towns on https://www.pearltrees.com/fredspeler#item269521482 . I think this concept can be achieved but it will requite some time.

Creating underground towns indeed sounds fascinating! It's a concept that's been explored in various ways, from subterranean cities to habitable spaces below the surface. Advancements in technology and architecture have made such ideas more feasible. Organizations like The Boring Company have delved into underground infrastructure for transportation, hinting at possibilities for expansion.
