Suggesting implementation of a bobble appearing over people talking locally - in a stylish, unobtrusive design, with option to disable. Normal chat interface remain unchanged.
Additional possibilities:
- Bobbles show a "..." (perhaps animated) when people are typing. Likewise, people using voice chat would have an appropriate icon (e.g. speaker icon) in their bobble.
- People in earshot, but out of view, have their bobble on the edge of the screen, following screen border like a compass towards them.
