Different construction stages

The construction complexity of building furniture and constructing a complex building is exactly the same, the only difference is the amount of resources needed. There is always a maximum of 5 different resources for each construction or item to craft.
Difficulty should increase with more complex skills (high tier skills).

Construction materials preparation < Construction < Masonry < Architecture

1) Construction materials preparation
Flatten ground, set construction sign, gather resources, build

2) Construction
Flatten ground, set sign/building outlines, gather resources, build walls, gather resources, build roof

3) Masonry
Flatten ground, set sign, gather resources, build fundament/cellar, ... , build roof

4) Architecture
Flatten ground, set sign, gather resources, build fundament, gather resources, build scaffolding, ... , build roof

You could also add an extra step for large buildings, build building crane.
This would definatelly make it more interesting to build more complex buildings.

    I like it, this would be mean in the early stages people without a advanced skill could contribute to building. I also like the idea of a building becoming visually different or partly functional after some of the construction stages at completed. IE a house without locks can be used as a house.... but is not secure.

    This is a great idea. I wondered something like this in a similar way at one time. But this post nails it. And the idea that others could help with the build as well, perfect. It would allow them to skill up as well.

    To build up on this idea, i think it would be great to be able to customise all the buildings. A city with only the same three types of houses doesn't look very alive.
    If you had different construction stages you could customise every house a little bit.. for example, stone cellar, brick walls, clay roof; or brick cellar, plaster walls, straw roof. There would be a lot of possibilities. Of course everything in different sizes and forms.
    And instead of those shops (blacksmith' shop, carpenter's shop, kitchen, etc.) you just build a House (brick, stone, plaster, as you like) and outfit it with the interior you want it to have. You could also outfit empty rooms in keeps or any building.
