General Skills & Sub-skills

0
First off, the skill tree should be removed because it forces you to do tasks that are unneeded only to finally do the skill that you actually wanted to do in the first place. An example is cutting down trees and getting bark just to improve logging until I can finally do carpentry. Anytime before that, logs are completely useless. To replace this restrictive system, we should have general skill and sub-skills which don't limit you but instead impact your quality of task and crafts. Let me explain...

Woodworking should a general skill and forestry, logging, carpentry, bowcraft, warfare engineering should be sub-skills. Woodworking would have a leveling system on it's own and would increase as you do anything which levels the other sub-skills under it. The level of woodworking along with the level of a sub-skill should determine the quality of outcome item you receive. This system makes sense, because if you're experienced in a certain trade, learning something new in that same trade shouldn't make you start from the bottom all over again. Also in character creation, we should be increasing general skills rather than sub-skills.

I think you should know a lot about trees when you are carpenter. For example viking shipbuilders had to know what trees are good for their ships, but i agree that it should be reworked somewhat. Your idea with sub-skills is quite good idea, i do not agree at 100% however developers should think about it and make something similar.

There is a suggestion named "remove the skill line". Search suggestions before starting a new topic

His idea is to simply remove it, while mine is about removing it and adding a new system which isn't a linear skill tree. My system will benefit you if you go and stay within a particular trade such as farming, construction, woodworking, ect. Hoshiqua's suggested system has you start all over on each individual skill you go in, even though you're within the same trade. I mean if you know how to do some woodwork, doing something else within it, shouldn't be very hard, right? Unfortunately, his system doesn't agree and not only is that unrealistic, but it's also pretty frustrating and cuts back on speculation. So please read suggestions before starting a new reply, because that was rather rude to assume my suggestion is similar to another when it wasn't.
