While I realize voice overs may seem like a rather minute issue, ponder this. Would it be appropriate to see the Union Jack or an American flag painted on a shield? How about either flag being raised above a castle or keep? I think any fan of the game would feel that seeing either of these patterns in the game would be very out of place.
Why then do the developers feel that proper British, English and overly flamboyant Italian accents are acceptable? The current Italian accent voice over sounds like a poorly done Mario or Luigi. This is a rather minor annoyance, yet this could so easily become a very immersive aspect of the game guys! The current voice overs totally kill immersion! We dont need to hear "Dave" from San Diego speaking perfect English with an American accent on our Medieval characters!
I'd propose the dev staff takes the time to hire a few voice actors that speak more of an "old world" tongue. I feel the following voice over languages should be implemented with each voice actor speaking their native tongue. The actual emotes are self explanatory.
- Icelandic(closer to old Norse than any of the Scandinavian languages)
- Finnish(because who knows the true origins of the Finnish language!?!)
- a Slavic language
- an Asian language
- Gaelic and/or Welsh
So we would hear one of the above languages and our character does the associated emote. Everyone would eventually understand what each emote means and we might even learn a few words in Icelandic, Finnish or Gaelic! This would offer an exponentially more immersive experience during social interactions in game between players without all immersion being totally crushed by hearing "Dave" from San Diego saying "Hello there" in a language and dialect that didn't even exist for another 1000 years after the era the game is set in.
