4Absolutely needed. If there's currency... it may be needed to write down counts of stuff, loans, etc. Also usefull for guild rules, kingdom LAWS!, maps using coordinates, encrypted messages.. as kaidra808 said, endless possibilities.Like noircat302 and o0_clubjack_0o likes this post. -

1I say that there should be added so called "skill books" aswell...
From these books player will be able lear(obviously) skills to make these books you will require 2 skills, mentoring and skill you want to write about. It should work basically the same as mentoring but simply quicker. I suggest you should req 100 in mentoring and other skill and hard to acquire materials, howether i know that it would be little game breaking so i would suggest aswell to make other restriction to make these books very very rare. Hell after all books in the middle ages were very rare...

3I definitely think things like this are important not only for RP, but for general immersion as well. The trick is to create a game that closes the gap between roleplayers and regular players as much as possible, by using the mechanics to immerse everyone who plays and make it impossible not to feel like part of a real and dynamic world.Like o0_clubjack_0o likes this post. -

I dunno why but I like to make poetry in these type of games... it really helps with immersion as castle wrote. the greats things in Elder scroll series is the books! not a lot of games does this which is sad, but I think it would be fitting for LiF, to see what love stories, or great tales of battle that have happened on a server. 1That would be really nice for both rp and ingame. For example copy/paste wouldnt work for writing books and if someone is writing books(for whatever reason guide/poetry/stories) for profit purpose, he/she(but probably he
) would have to make it worth making money. And everytime a book is read or changes owner, letters or even words gets erased randomly (because it becomes 2nd hand and ) so it would keep authors' interest against piracy a little bit ^^ maybe too much effort to implement than it worths for only rp purposes but its just an idea afterall and for guild it can be used to keep logs for inventory or keep people updated about what the materials were used for. -

1You could have books and other simple choices that require less skill, like simple sheets of paper and scrolls. They could be crafted with animal skin or with trees and so on. A great idea nevertheless. Could generate some nice stuff, like people writing down the tales of their settlements, making chronicles for people to read and learn their folklore. -

0Could potentially get real fancy and add a skill for scribes. Not all in medieval times could read and write, making it a very valuable skill to acquire. That could also give the Monk's ropes a use...
There is a mod for LiF:YO that uses carrier pigeons to send messages rather than having an immersion breaking global chat. Implementing scrolls and books could help with the global communication as well, being able to write a message and have it hand delivered by another player would be awesome.
