Nerf hit-and-run and archers

4
Hit and run
1) Reduce soft stamina regen in war stance.
2) Disable switching back to peaceful stance until your full soft stamina is full.
Then you'll need to choose: fight or flee. You won't be able to hit someone, then run away (instant switch to peaceful stance), then come back and hit again, and so on. If you underrated someone and want to run away, but your soft stamina is not full - there is "Flee!" ability.
Archers
1) To shoot a bow you need to nock the arrow (4 seconds, able to walk or run), draw (1 second, not able to run or walk), take aim and release.
2) Add soft stamina drain while drawing a bowstring and taking aim.
3) Camera turns in a random direction while drawing a bow (1 second). (maybe depending on strength/agility/quality of bow/skill/etc.)
This will prevent pre-aiming and fix the shooting rate. Also archers won't be able to run around while shooting.
This wil make combat more realistic and balanced.

I saw this video. It's about trick shooting and not about proper medieval archery. He uses bow with low draw weight and even then he doesn't shoot at full draw.
"Most archers would not shoot arrows at maximum rate, as it would exhaust even the most experienced man. "With the heaviest bows [a modern war bow archer] does not like to try for more than six a minute."
"In tests against a moving target simulating a charging knight it took some approximately seven seconds to draw, aim an loose an armour-piercing heavy arrow using a replica war bow"
Read references before posting something like this.
And shooting at such fast rate simply makes archers too powerful in the game.

the archers are supposed to be stronger than the footmen... what you are saying must be also applied to everybody...

and the gameplay design for the archers has non sense... 4 sec for an arrow ? like a crossbow you mean ? lol.

Reduce soft stamina regen in war stance.

For now i think stam regen is kinda fair.

Disable switching back to peaceful stance until your full soft stamina is full.

I think they simply need to add longer animation to putting weapons away - ofc you cant run while putting something on your back...

To shoot a bow you need to nock the arrow (4 seconds, able to walk or run), draw (1 second, not able to run or walk), take aim and release.

Wow! Thats actually very long time for experienced archer i think(even with longbow) unless you dont have enough strength that is...
4 seconds is actually how long you load a crossbow...

Add soft stamina drain while drawing a bowstring and taking aim.

This! This how should have been implemented!

However you should be able to take aim before you take shot!

Camera turns in a random direction while drawing a bow (1 second). (maybe depending on strength/agility/quality of bow/skill/etc.)

Dunno what to think about this...

This is how I believe it should work...

    1) You draw a bow and put arrow on the string ready to use.

    2) You use lets say right mouse button to aim and hold it - you aim with bow, string not yet drawn and you can move around but not run.

    3) You click on left mouse button and hold it and you draw a string entire time holding right button - Yes, you can move but it will make aiming harder. Yes you stamina should be draining rapidly especially when you walk around.

    4) Stamina stops draining when you release the arrow or you will cancel a shot(by releasing right button). If stamina hits 0 you release arrow accidentally and shot is very inaccurate.

Btw If the bow is bigger (in this way simple - short - composite - long) the lower the the shooting rate...

And for example lets a a trembling animation when stamina is close to zero - aim slowly becomes wider

    (Sorry for Engrish)

It isn't just 'Hit and Run Archers' that needs to be nerfed. In general the ability to go out of war stance and to just sprint away is a prevalent issue, something I see many Plate-armored individuals do after rushing in with something like a broad axe or bec de corbin. In general I feel as though once a person exits a war stance that there should either be a 'slowed' effect placed on them or that sprinting is just disabled for a period of 3-5 seconds, of course an obvious work around to this is to use the 'flee!' ability.

You got me wrong. This suggestion is not about just archers. There is actually 2 suggestions: the first one is about 'hit-and-run' in general, the second one is about archers. But the second suggestion will not work good enough without the first one, so i put them together.

Now you can waste all soft stamina in 4-5 seconds (even faster in some cases) and if you stand still you will regain full stamina in 5 seconds. This is not very realistic and makes fights shorter and more random.
I think solution is to reduce stamina regen by 2 times, but also reduce stamina consumption per attack by 1.5 times (or just increase general amount of stamina instead of reducing stamina consumption). More time to attack and even more to regenerate.

Yeah take kiting out of the game so ranged is useless in smaller battles, use warcries and throwing weapons, or learn how to dodge arrows.

I'd rather they buff calvary, it's hard as hell to actually kill someone on foot while you're on your horse. It's even more difficult to hit someone else on horseback...we had a massive horse mounted combat thing this past weekend and no one could kill each other on horseback. Granted we didn't have our lances with us but we all know how lol those things are.

It's about timing, I've seen some guys do very well with the new lancing mechanic.

Even with the recent changes to lancing, archers still dominate the field. My group has run many field battles, and the archers get almost all of the damage in because of the high rate of fire, insane damage, and kiting ability. I like to run lancer for a lot of these battles, and I find that its way easier to hit a knight on the ground than it is to hit all these Legolas-esque players who have the amazing ability to sprint with 100 arrows on their back after putting away their bow in a split second after firing off 3 arrows in 5 seconds with amazing accuracy.

Horses being the stated counter to archers in this game isn't how it actually plays out. I feel more confident that I will get out alive charging at 2 guys with pikes than I do charging at an archer, and thats honestly because the archer can dish out way more punishment without having to worry about timing or positioning like the pike men do.

That being said, lances are pretty damn effective at taking out footmen and other mounted fighters, don't know why you think they are bad Booyaah.

Again, you can use other ranged weapons to help counter them, like throwing axes which are very effective against lighter armored troops. In addition you can use slashing weapons, and pair that with lighter armors as well, almost like a skirmisher. If you are complaining about archers who have heavier armors ( chain, mail, plate) then you need to reconsider your argument because they are pretty easy to catch. I cant stress how stupid it is to complain about archers when you have war cries and ranged weapons at your disposal. And how many field battles were you in, that had more than 100 people in it? None. So you are comparing at most 20 v 20's and saying that they are over powered on this type of play field. Yeah, you would think a skirmishing force would be more effective with lower numbers no? more room to spread out, and kite heavy armored people. They also detached war cries from any specific armors, so it is likely to catch up to ones who are wearing leather armor. But if they are wearing no armor, 2-3 throwing axes will kill them. Theres 3x less armor encumbrance at level 30 like idk. To me, war cries are the same as the ability to kite. Both are really only effective in smaller battles. Like what happens when horse archery comes into play, just more complaints from people who prefer to fight melee heavy?
