The current tabard is a simple blank item, linked to the guild; If you give my tabard to a member of another Guild, this takes the template of his guild and so on.
You could replace this system with a more realistic system:
The tailor (Skill Tailoring) creates a blank tabard and give it to an artist (Skill Artist), artist creates the guild herald. In this way the tabard will be forever with that emblem, though I give to a member of another guild.
You could also implement the ability to draw the emblem (idem for the paintings), or the ability to upload a .png file (makes it unique emblem for each guild).
The current system is so rough, We don't like to find other guilds with the same emblem or heraldry.

1The tabards in feudal age were limited to specific noble houses or guild members or orders. It will be nice it indeed these will be made by an artist and will remain as a normal texture on the cloth forever and to be restricted to specific members with ranks, in a battle each soldier would fight with his noble/captain, they recognize each other so your group will atack another group of different tabard, in real battle there was confusion also, now you are just seek another tabard owner and is very clear, there is not real system for orders... Having only the real emblem owners wearing tabard will need people also to start being more disciplined and to stay near it's own in order to not do frienly fire. -
