I'm pulling my hair out over this...

Post by Paladin_Goo » 06 Aug 2016, 07:37

I don't understand how a dedicated server for a game could be so badly documented...like, nothing I can find from the developers, anywhere.

I can however, get past that. As long as stuff can work...but, I'm having issues, and I don't get it.

Firstly - I followed this guide:
server-setup-2016-t18814

No matter what I do, there doesn't appear to be any errors in my dialog, and I'm told that as long as the CMD window doesn't disappear, the server is running; and it certainly appears to be running.

I can rule out port issues, I've got both Windows firewall and my sonic wall completely opened in lieu of these issues to try and troubleshoot, and its plugged directly into a pipeline at a datacenter, and other games work on the same ports (cause troubleshooting, lol). Using the default port, 28000.

Here's a screenshot of the console:

The challenges, thats the server *seeing* me trying to connect, but only as a direct connection cause the server won't show up in the list. I thought "Had to be a port issue..." but after completely opening my sonic wall to test it, and disabling windows firewall all together, I've come to the conclusion that ports can't possibly be the issue. Any help would be appreciated cause to be honest - this is nonsense. I could put up a dedicated server for any other game in a matter of minutes, but this one is even more difficult than it should be. Apparently the devs want even setting up a server to be grindy.

Also, attached is a copy of the log file...(zip...cause txt isn't allowed for some reason..)

Please, any help is appreciated. If I left anything out please let me know.

There are other ports that need to be opened for the Steam API. I forget which ones but if you google it you'll find it. LiF uses steam for searching for servers, also port 28000 (or whatever port you're using) plus 28001 and 28002 need to be open as well.

Also in the config file you have your server set to public and not private.

As for windows firewall, keep it disabled. It's terrible, and doesn't work half the time. Use an actual firewall/router if you do use one.

Actually it should be 28000-28005 for port forwarding.

Also make sure your router has NAT reflection if you're behind some sort of NAT. That'll cause it to not show up on the server list as well.
