This is to suggest that the devs should create a server specifically for Player Hosted PVP Events. The way I imagine it working is that there would be a new type of idol that can be built at level 0 artisan. This idol would be a teleport idol. The player would have the ability to worship at the idol. Worshiping at the idol would work in a similar way to logging out (can't perform any other actions, takes 30 seconds etc.)

However once the worship action is complete the player would be migrated to a small server (one that is perhaps 1/8 the size of one of the server tiles and holds significantly smaller amount of total players at once). The player can only teleport there with edible items, weapons, armour, horses, poisons and coin (they will be unable to complete the action successfully if they try to worship with any other kinds of items in their inventory).

While on this server the player would be unable to do damage to other players, terraform, build, craft etc. At the center of this server would be an arena. At the arena players could sign up as a combatant or spectator. Spectators would have access to a stands area. Combatants would have access to a fighting area (which is over looked by the stands). The fighting area would be the only area in which players can do damage to other players on the entirety of the server.

There would be no loss of alignment on this server. Nor would death incur any penalty while there. Except that upon death the player will have a tombstone that will be lootable. Also upon death the player will have the option to either respawn on the Arena server or respawn back at the totem they worshiped at in order to be taken to the arena server. Players would also be able to return to the idols they worshiped at originally through the use of of an idol located at the arena.

This would allow players from anywhere on the main server to meet on neutral ground easily and proceed to an area where they could have organized PvP events, and be rewarded for wins, without trolling of those events or people on their way to them (which is the principle concern for players that would like to hold such events currently).

There is probably a lot more with this suggestion that could be fleshed out (like the specifics of how area access, lobbying, and queuing works). So leave your thoughts on it please.
