Chat bubbles

Post by SirWinston » 14 Mar 2014, 14:53

Since the names aren't displayed unless you move close to someone and target him, it can be confusing to know who is talking in a crowd.

Is it planned to add floating text over a person's head to see what they are saying ? It has become pretty much standard in most online games.

Please no.... I do not want to see chat bubbles dear god. :bad:

I do not think it is so called "Standard" to see chat bubbles over players heads....maybe in Social games it is I have no Idea I don't play games to stand around being Social and read Chat Bubbles.

I Also think having a bunch of chat bubbles floating all over the place would be even more confusing in large battles, give away positions of people, and completely break immersion.

In most games it's a feature that can be toggled on/off in options so if you don't like it don't use it.

But really it can be something subtle like LOTRO:

I don't see how that's breaking immersion.

Right now it's somewhat confusing because you always have to look at the chat box instead of just looking at what is going on in front of you.
Plus, we all look the same and you can't see someone's name unless you target him so you have to run close to each person in the area to know who is who. Now THAT is immersion breaking in my opinion.

I am torn on this one. Yes it can be helpful, but it can also be spammed to death and really give people a headache.

I really don't get how you guys can play without this in a large group. Chat box quickly becomes a spamfest and impossible to follow.

This is like asking for a unicorn.

You want to get in voice with random people around your character in the game world and expect that to be **immersive??**

I wish I had your faith in humanity.

More likely, it would be a mess of 100% non immersive internet tough guy and troll chatter.

A voicechat system like "asking for a unicorn", lol no offense but where the f**** have you been in the past five years ?

That's how it works in DayZ, Rust, and all modern online games in general, and it's the most immersive tool you can add to your game.
Simply because there's nothing more natural than to talk to someone in front of you like you would in real life. Someone is annoying you ? Well kill him, mute him (it's a game you can do that too!) or just move away some place you can't hear him.

It wouldn't be a "mess" if the community is mature enough. Would you just start trolling and being offensive as soon as you know you can talk to other people around you in your mic ?

No ? Well guess what, other players are just the same.
Not everyone is a bad troll out to get you.

This. It has been done in a lot of games, and since the world will be really huge, you won't be bothered by tons of trolls. Plus, if someone comes to your personnal claim and starts annoying you, you just have to flag him and.. you know what happens next :D

I'd prefer chat bubble to a chat window as you would need to look at the character talking to see what he is saying rather than just standing near him doing something completely different.

Chat Bubble or floating text is definitely my choice as well.

Although I see and understand why those who prefer PvP and voice coms do not want it - as long as it is possible to turn off - why wold it matter to you? :%)

And even though this is a full out PvP game, it is also a RP'ers dream world. And you will be surprised how many RP'ers there are that will come to this game, expecting and loving that it is a full out PvP world.
And in the end RP'ers are just as loyal to a game as Hard Core PvP'rs, and it would be silly to not impliment chat bubbles (f.e like in Lotro) to make it possible for them to "do their thing" - It would also be silly to turn that money away... *peers at Bobik*

As long as it is possible to turn it off for those who do not want it - why not, it would actually just make the game look more interesting to a wider range of people.

And in the end that means more crafters to back the PvP'ers

More players = more people for both the RP'ers and the PvP'ers to harrass, love, kill, protect, tax and so on...
