Darkfall Online and LiF

Post by Warrer » 10 Sep 2014, 17:53

Hi,

I was a huge supporter of Darkfall Online back when the the game servers were still up. And while Darkfall Online was lackluster in promised sandbox features, the twitchyness and fast pace of the combat made up for it x10. I can hands down say that Darkfall Online had the best combat system of any game that I've ever played.

Unfortunately the game was shut down, and replaced with Darkfall:Unholy Wars, which is nothing but a dumbed-down **** version of DFO..

So I recently stumbled across this project and it caught my attention. I see that the lead designer/project leader was a fan of Darkfall Online himself, and that a lot of the same great features from DFO is going to be a part of LiF as well (Full loot, player holdings, sieges, politics, drag & drop looting system etc etc)

What I was wondering about however was the combat. What I saw from the recent trailer worried me a bit. The combat seemed very slow paced and restrictive, and yes I know this is early alpha and all, but I was wondering whether the developers are aiming for the game to have the same skill-based, fast paced, twitchy combat that made DFO such an amazing one-of-a-kind game in its genre?

Thank you.

No, it's nothing like Darkfall. It will be more akin to Mount&Blade or Mortal Online but without the magic part.

There will be no bunnyhop gliding halfway across the server and movement and fighting will be realistic and not a spinfest.

It borrows mechanics from other games and wields it into a new one. So it's hardly unique in that sense. It's just a combination of good stuff in a medieval setting which appeals to me most.

Well, generally it is true, though some features are quite unique ;)

Have you seen such formations system anywhere?
Or unique randomized alchemy?
Or directional attacks combos with special effects in a no target twitch combat?
Or food system that affects your progression?
Or fractures, bleeding traumas on different body parts?

Well, no... but then again I'm not sure what half of that means. I would need to see its effect in the game first.

As for the combat: we have some games with directional combat, even combos (Chivalry), War of the Vikings has special attacks as well. Don't know if it will be comparable to LiF though.

For these two questions, I would say Wurm Online has something at least going in this direction

But of course the combination of features makes LiF unique and the game of my dreams
