Dedicated server (on my own computer) vs create a world

Post by BogdanEpureanu » 15 Dec 2014, 01:22

Since I'm only interested in solo playing, I was told that renting a server just for myself is not needed and I can play very well with a local hosted and saved game.

All cool far now, but here comes the question - does it makes any difference if I use the dedicated server tool (which, after a few long hours of digging on the internet to find out how to properly set up :P, I managed to install) or the "create a world" option from the game itself?

Is any of them preferable to the other (except the fact that "create a world" is way easier to setup - but since I managed to make them both working that is no longer important :P)? If yes how and why?

Thank you in advance for explanations. ;)

create a world server will continue running in the background after you close your game client, BUT will also block you from starting the game client again via steam. (steam says the game is already running)

If you plan on leaving it running in the background at all, and logging in more than just the first time, run the dedicated.
