Does quality even matter at this point?

Post by Calinir » 21 Oct 2014, 06:04

Apparently the type of material used makes zero difference, a steel weapon does as much damage as an iron or copper one, same for armor and damage reduction.

However, has anyone tested thoroughly whether quality effects damage and damage reduction on weapons and armor?
It would be nice to get some confirmation from someone who tested this with weapons and armor of various quality (ideally with a character with locked/maxed weapon and armor skills to guarantee the numbers are correct)

I tested weapons. No difference.

Yeah I suspected as much but thanks for the confirmation.

neither. No difference.

PS: this was before the patch that reduced to 20% the bonus from Blacksmith Shop though. Now that I think about it, it should be tested again because it's possible that there was no difference because all items were quality 100. Now that this is not the case anymore, the metal used might have an impact on the resulting quality.

So you tested the difference between the metals, not the quality difference. The OP asked whether quality matters, and it does. 100 Quality doubles the base damage/protection values for weapons/armour.

Using Steel when crafting weapons rather than Iron gives a Quality boost, at least if you don't reach 100 Quality when using Iron already (which should be a lot harder if not impossible since the crafting shop quality bonus fix).

I had tested wether metals made a difference, which is what the OP wanted to know. And by the way quality wasn't the only property that didn't change. Durability also was the same as well as "resistance", ie a steel pickaxe would take the same damage on use than a copper pickaxe and it gave no other bonus to the mining process.

It would be useful to make a table with anything you found about the items, materials, quality and durability. Since there's nothing like this.

I hope someone has the time to make it.

Quality of Devices (i.e. Tanning tubs and Bloomery) matters.
So you have to build it with good mats and high skill to get higher quality while crafting at devices.

I tested it alot ;).

Quality pretty much only matters when it comes to saplings, snare traps, fuel, food and the durability of tools.
