Foods for Feeding and Taming??

Post by Hogweed » 07 Dec 2014, 18:32

Seems a little weird with what to feed now. I had my stables stocked with apples, yet a bull died. I have not seen that happen since. But what do I feed Pigs, sheep and cows??

I read the fav food of cows is carrots, but when I tried to tame one, I kept getting they did not like the food, apples , carrots and wheat. But eventually by pushing apples I tamed them.

With pigs, they didnt like anything either, but when i gave them a wheat they tamed.

So what is the best food to feed and tame Boar/Sow, Sheep/Ram and Cow/bulls??

Appreciate any help!! :%)

You can tame them with any food from what I have seen. It is a chance every attempt which is why you see mixed results.

For instance I have tamed swine with apples. A friend picked up cows with carrots.

Thats not really true -

I have just heard you need Wheat for pigs to breed - and you tame them with that. I think Sheep need Cabbage - so maybe they brred witht hat too . And cows used to like carrots - I dont know what is going on with that though.

If anyone KNOWS how this works I would really appreciate some clarity!

Thank you!!

Animals will eat from the Food box or from taming, any of the following:
Apple
Cabbage
Carrot
Edible taproot
Mushroom
Peas
Wheat

Each animal however also has a favorite type of food. Feeding them their favorites will increase Breeding success, resource production, quality gains per cycle, and the chance to Tame.

That does not mean it requires you to feed them that specific type of food, it just means the animal prefers it.

My server got wiped recently, so playing catch up again on a personal server (on my ssd) version of late.

Hares I am certain prefer Carrots, kind of obvious. Sheep I didn't get a chance to fully inspect all the foods, but definitely improved more with same quality cabbage than with apples.

The rest I have not been able to play with.

I would hazard a guess that cows are Wheat and pigs are Mushrooms.

I tamed a sheep cow and bull today with apples, even though they "didn't like my treat". Force-feeding works!

I think pigs are wheat - i keep taming them in one shot with wheat. Sheep seem to be cabbage, I dont care about Rabbits, since no matter what you feed then, they breed like..........well.... rabbits! Same with chickens, although they taste like rabbits.

I have no idea about cows - I will try to feed them every item in the wild and see what tames them best.

If anyone know how this works would appreciate an update!!

Wouldn't surprise me if pigs were wheat, I had guess mushrooms cuz I thought the dev's would correlate truffles (type of mushroom) with pigs. Eh, guess what makes sense to me doesn't always make sense to others.

I managed to tame a boar with apples quality 85 at 10th try and a sow with apples quality 85 too at 8th try. It was saying that The animal didn't like your treat, but just be patient. My Animal lore was 71/74 at the time. A little hint for taming a boar: Approach it so it starts chasing you and run away from it minding a small distance until it exhausts. Then just approach it again and start taming. Good Luck ;) LiF:YO Early Alpha (version 0.2.10.5)
