So I made a spot to build some outposts on, and was able to place down the frame for a Geognosy Pit. But when I try and place any other outpost I get the message, "God does not allow you to claim these lands!" Any idea why?

I figured it out. I guess every outpost needs to be 200 tiles away from another outpost as well as from a monument. I didn't know that and was trying to build them right next to each other.

What about the maintenance? Are these outposts free? or how can you pay for the upkeep?

they lose 100 durability per ingame day and cost no upkeep aside from that

durability loss also does not seem to affect produced quality
