The coop doesn't have any breeding pens, only barns+ do.

They seem to randomly breed. It's very rare though.
You can feed them anything from apples to any of the farmed foods.
If your waiting for crops to grow just "Gather wild plants" for a while. you get enough onions and carrots to feed them
