Inquiries into Dev Progression

Post by Cannabibles » 29 Sep 2014, 00:19

Could we have a response from the dev team on this?

Being a recent server owner, provided by Blue Fang Solutions, I've come to see a few things regarding this game which have made me curious as to when they may be implemented.

I've come to realize the game has been developed in 32-bit which means the server tech can only support up to 4Gb of RAM, an amount which 40 people can easily chew through in the matter of a couple hours depending on their activities. So I suppose my first question would be - When might we see a 64-bit conversion/port?

Spoiler

Another thing is that I've been told by a staff at Blue Fang Solutions that we don't have a memory dump/trash as of yet on LiF. There may be one already implemented and not working properly, I'm not sure how to look into this sort of thing however this seems that it would be an excellent resolution to staying in 32-bit.

Both of these seem as though they may resolve server hosting issues in the game's current state. I understand this is an alpha game at the moment, and we'd been warned to not purchase the game if we do not enjoy supporting buggy/alpha games, however seeing the game in its current status I believe it's ready for this.

If we could get a word back from a developer relating to these two inquiries it would be splendid, and put at least my mind to ease.

On another note, freaking awesome game guys, keep up the great work!

I would like to know about that too. I run a 64 Player Server from Bluefang Solutions and it crashes every 15 Minutes in Primtime. People that are playing get annoyed by this, since the farmed land clears up and traps dont work properly. Melting also does fail.

Fixing the memory leaks should be priority one. Weve lost a lot of players because of this. Is there any Information you can give to us Serverowners so i can calm down most of the Players?

64bit server is not that easy as it sounds. But we're looking right now into that memory leak that actually causes our servers to hit that 4Gbs border. That is more correct way to address current issue.

If things go well - we will fix that leak this week, hopefully.

Torque 3D, the engine used to design Life is Feudal, as I understand it, is only capable of developing 32-Bit applications - only advanced users have attempted create 64 bit applications from it and these are completely unsupported by GarageGames.

The crux of this is LiF will remain 32 bit for the foreseeable future and thus targetting and squashing memory leaks for the 64 player servers is most likely a top priority of theirs right now since it dramatically affects quality of play.

(I mean our server crashes every 40m to 1hr with 40 players, and sometimes every 10-15mins at 60 players.)

Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty what I have written is correct..

We deviated from the original engine about 3 years ago. First things first as Bobik said we will attempt to plug the memory leak asap.

Its assuring that you're focusing on the memory leak at least.
its making the game pretty much unplayable atm
