FOREST DEATH 2 The Return

Ok restart the discussion, the dev don't make nothing in this time for repair this patch, and i repost with new photos:

this is a french server, with the same problem.....in the north see the image there is no trace of OAK or ELM, in all the part north, except those planted by player.....in the south.....bhe....classic desert except the tree planted by player.

It's normal?......in the north a new player how construct?....call the Gm and spawn tree?.....or material for construct?....but it's normal?....in the south chop all the hazel for make a house......it's riodicolous, remake the old forest please.....not only a fact of atmosphere and ambient, but now is a problem with construction with hrd wood......PLEASE fix this issue....

One thing.....i nothing this appening in the server with old map, in the new map i don't notice......a clue for the dev.......

Once again, we would like to ask you to send your DB export to helpme@lifeisfeudal.com along with the file cm_forest_maintenance.xml located in \Life is Feudal Your Own Dedicated Server\data\ directory. We really can't help you if you won't provide us that essential data.

uff......sorry Arrakis or my English is not good, or i speak another language.....i have no server.....i travel for this problem to server in server.....i post this problem, i see this problem, and tell you if you and the dev resolve this......for many player, not only for me.....repeat i have no server, i'm only a player see this problem......look at the picture....is a french server with old map.....look.....same problem i post and i see in other server!!!!...........please go to this server and see with your eyes....

I've done some simulations over the past couple of weeks to get a better understanding about the forest maintenance XML file to make an actual generator with UI for it.
Conclusion: This 'desert' issue can't be reproduced without the use of obsolete and possibly harmful forest cleanup sql scripts. You can hardly blame the devs for the ignorance of some server admins, honestly.

Your accusations are fair when we talking about MMO. Here the settings of tree growth are depending on devs totally. But when we're talking about YO version - your opinion can be automatically considered invalid. As it was said above, the speed of growth depends on sql data, set by an administrator. Not developers, but administrator. This is important. I doubt devs are the ones to blame in this situation.


As for my server, WarGM.ru, we don't have such problems at all. Trees are growing with a normal and appropriate speed and everyone manages to have a piece of it. Even withnin the fact, that the server is fullhoused about 16 - 17 hours per day.

I guess, you should contact the local admins for that matter.

Once again, we as players can't provide those things. You set up the environment where servers are hosted by individuals that can tweak as necessary. So you have set us up as players to fail because we can only report what we experience and not the files you need to emulate or recreate the issue.

I tried 4 digits for <MaxAge> and <DeathBorder> (3300 and 2200) on our test server since ive noticed a good amount of admins doing this. After about 90 ingame days (at AgeSpeed 10, starting with only 17k trees) there was 0 trees with no chance of re pop due to no new tree's being planted (prob from a roll over of the values).
Would bet something similar to this is causing some issues as well.

Our tree Died all at the same time after the winters after 1 month. We have increased speed but nothing but brushwood. Problem has arrived on our three map. Tell me which file to send you? Because your script does not overpower the increase in the speed of shoot. And we use no script to delete trees. sorry for my English

sont mort tous en meme temps apres l hivers au bout de 1 mois. nous avons augmenter la vitesse mais rien que de la brousaille. se probleme est arrivé sur nos trois map. dite moi quelle fichier vous envoyer ? car la votre script ne surporte pas l augmentation de la rapidité de pousse. desoler pour mon anglais

True. I was able to reproduce this. Values above 1000 for maxage/deathborder will result in fewer trees to be planted. Values above ~1500 will result in no trees being planted at all. Once all initial trees died, the server will be empty.

To be fair, I don't really see any reason why you would want to configure such sky high values for tree age. But since there is no upper limit mentioned in the XML comments, I would assume this is a bug indeed.

@Arrakis I'll send in example configs and information how to reproduce the issue on a freshly installed vanilla LiF server later this evening, so the guys can check and add it to their bugtracker.

nothing, also Hazel is disappeared.......and see the server don't replant nothing NOTHING NOTHING!!!

another travel to another server, or STOP and i convince someone there is a "little" PROBLEM?

My server and many many others have no issues with trees, its all about the settings set for that server by the admin of that server.
Travel to other servers, spend some time researching their settings, and find one where the admins know how to setup their cm_forest_maintenance.xml properly.

Mak74, seriously, read Nyuton's posts in this thread. It seems you never read the answers given to you. The desert issue appears only if server admin has set values above 1000 (or worst, 1500) for maxage/deathborder.

On our 4 months old server, we don't have any forest issue anymore, and we use vanilla settings. We had issues before but devs fixed and tweaked the forest algorithm 2 months ago. Now it's fine.

I missed the part of the forest maintenance file comments that said not to place those values over 999......yep reading it again right now and I just seem to be overlooking it. Can someone tell me what line # that comment is in?

Yeah wish there was some clarification if the value is supposed to have a 3 digit max or was intended to go higher and is currently bugged.

i only told my experience, in the old times i no see never a problem with the trees and forest in general, but when this patch is come, many server i play have the "forest death" for guilt or not guild of the admin, i only told this : with the many bug and feature and object the dev can add in the game or repair it......own the forest algoritm has create.....mah.......

Max Value is not stated out. The whole file is not realy good explained, devs could do better here. But, there is a comment about raising values to high like growthmulti.
Devs can not test all settings possible by the forest xml, and that is pretty fine. Vanilla settings and slightly changed settings work as intended and do not cause any problems.

If server admins want to change the settings to the extreme, they were warned and outcome is on their own.
It is basic knowledge for server admins who know what they do, that you should backup your server and settings before changing settings.

Another server, don't make name for privacy, but another problem of desert........how many server i post in this thread?, how many picture i upload first the dev make something to this disaster?
Admin fault?......ok the dev make an explanation for this algoritm for no cause this problem......or a problem of patch?......bugged......ok the dev fix this......it's futile continue this discussion, not important who is the guilty, important is this problem have a finish, don't ruins the experience of player, only this is important!!! PLEASE dev make something, tell the admins how make the forest algoritm fuction well, or fix, but make something, PLEASE......

And, embodiment, what do you want the devs do?

It's server admin who change parameters, not the devs.

Initial parameters work fine.

If you want to revive your server, speak with your admins.
Ask them their config files for sending to help desk if you want but devs can't do anything.

Dear Saar, i see a vanilla server, with no modification of nothing, with speed x1, like other i see.......the forest is death......i don't talk for loose time, i see a lot of server, with x4, x2 , x1 etc, vanilla e not, and the result is same.......after some time the oak, and in generally the trees with hardwood become under 10 quality, and after some other time disappear, the server don't replant much, or nothing, and become a desert, with modification and not......OK? this discussion don't make a solution, before this algoritm the forest in all the server is same and luxuriant, after this patch become a desert in many server, this is the reality, admin or dev is the guilty, the problem is BIG!!!, or dev make a general post when explain the fuction of the forest maintenance for the admins, or this problem continue, it's futile blame admin, the DEV make a solution for all the server.....only this is the request....
Ah one question Saar, what is your server?.....or do you play?, for a visit.....

How do you know it's vanilla, since you're not the admin ?
How do you know if the admin didn't use forest cleanup scripts ?

Start your own server, don't touch any setting, and you'll see that you won't get a desert.

As explained, with vanilla settings you can't get a desert. Sure, after some weeks the forest will be less dense than in its primitive state, but it's certainly not a desert.

i told this for i know admin, i have friend of some admin, and i assure with a vanilla server this happening same other server, a x1 of velocity it takes more time, but happening, i don't realize for you and other person defend this horrible thing, but for me is not important, the forest when this patch don't exit, hare luxuriant, and beautiful, now this is a semi desert after some time, and about 2 months is a desert, is a fact, travel see other server with about 2 months and see with your eyes, if it's a fault of admin or dev, for me is not important......this problem is appeared when this algoritm is added in game, this is a fact, and stop to attack me, i only here for explain a problem, a real problem.

Yes because when it appeared it gave server admins the ability to control how the forest grows, thus giving them the ability to mess it up.
As stated by many players, server admins, and even people who make mods for the game, the problem is in your servers settings not with the algorithm.
Unless you want the devs to make it idiot proof by taking away that control, there's nothing they can do for you.

Since youre friends with admins that have this problem, have them send you the cm_forest_maintenance.xml like everyone as said or better yet, have them jump on here themselves to fix their own server. Otherwise id suggest you stop wasting your time and find another server thats setup properly to play on.

Ok you suggest me a server, please?.....i change with this "beautiful" patch, 10 server......i'm very weak to restar again and again, suggest me a server with a warranty the "forest death" don't happening.......please, or you don't know this, stop you to waste your time to defend this algoritm, please send me a server if you know......but if i see the problem also here......i post the image of the server, OK?

Uff...... i'm not trolling, i'm only post a problem in vary server with evidence (image), only this, if one of you suggest a server for playng in peace with not this issues, ok i'm stop this trhead, but remember if also this server suggested me have the "forest death" i rewrite a new post.
Cancel this conversation is futile, ok ban me, but don't resolve the problem, close the eyes is not a solution.......

This algorithm is completely dead we have a server that has been running for over a year and since this algorithm the forests die our previous two maps have died because of its with the Vanilla Mak configuration is right the leaf trees decrease greatly in quality to finish By disappearing and being replaced by a great number of scrub and fir. But some people not as stubborn as you are moving for us. Mak forgot it does not question itself. Fortunately Nyuton and there for us I managed to give a second breath to our map thanks to them because they are listening to the community. Thank you Nyuton.

Thank Dam501, for the link, but i don't understand......WHY a modder fix a patch.......WHY?.......it's a fault of dev......the DEV have the obligation to repair this algoritm......sorry but i don't understant why my friend use this link to repair their server.....sorry, the dev cause this ENORMOUS problem, and the dev FIX this......same Heraldry.......we forgotten Heraldry broken?......and now the stable.....ohhh yes......i enter in game every 2-3 hours for breed the animals......for the dev make a decision to put poor food in the stable.....yes for we have no real life, no job, no school, yes......24 h in game......yes ......LIF YO is not the MMO, the dev put an end to make YO similar to MMO, broken this beautiful game.....sorry but is my opinion, if dev make a problem in game, the dev fix this, not a modder......thank a lot anyway to Nyuton, great person, and excellent modder.
