Taverns, musical instruments and other social tools

Post by SirWinston » 17 Mar 2014, 12:46

Is there any plan to add social tools to the game before release ? Or is it something that we may see in the far future ?

I'm thinking of player owned taverns, where you could produce and sell alcohol. (could have some kind of blurry effect, something like what we can see in GTA or World of Warcraft)
Next to that, features like player instruments that can play .abc files (think Starbound, LOTRO, Asheron's Call did it too if I remember right); different types of stances to express different moods, multiplayer emotes like shaking hands, saluting, dancing, surrender, etc.

All these examples are low-priority since they don't bring much content to the actual game, but they do make a difference between games where you just fight all day long and those where you can play in a more social way.

In the end Roleplay is only happening if the players want it, there have been games with social tools and little to no roleplayers, and very basic games with a heavy RP Community really involved in internet politics. (EvE comes to mind)
But adding "useless" features (like a horse race minigame or anything you can come up with) and social tools can help players to just settle down for a moment after a raid or a hunting trip and get to know their neighbors.

Star Wars Galaxies remains the best example of what I'm talking about, IMHO

I am sooo for all of this. The RP'er in me just sings from suggestions like these.

I am guessing you will get some negative comments from a few of the hard core PvP'ers who have little love for RP. But it seems they do not understand that they do not have to partake in all of this :D

I personally want the best from both worlds

Lotro have had its grand moments with this - and some of my best memories (Even as a hard core Raider/PvP'er) have been from some of the player run events with player run bands and feasts at the different inns of Lotro. Especially in the first few years of the games existence.

I am looking forward to see what will be implemented in the later stages of development

Yeah, I too like this stuff. I want them to include as much as possible.
It shouldn't be ridiculous though (you were speaking of dancing, in some games people are out on the market place and dance all the time. It should maintain its realistic character.

A surrender emote is already in the game which is great. More of it, please!

Yes I agree, it should only be available in designated areas.

Great suggestion! This would give even more charm for teams to goof around with, organize online parties and so on. Go to tavern and take a screenshot of a drunk guy sleeping under the table while his friends sing around the table with their mugs raised. It's fun!

It Would be interesting to see sometime next year after all features have been added and the game releases.

Its asked for in most alpha's & beta's I have seen over the years and doesn't always make it into the game even years later...

But sure after everything else is in and the combat is rock solid and the game is balanced why not.

It would probably be low on the list but I would like to see or "hear" war cries, drums, warhorns and even bagpipes.

It would certainly sends chills down the ole spine.

I asked Bobik about warhorns (and church bells) but he said they'll not be in. Pretty sad if you ask me.

to me Star Wars Galaxies is the top mmorpg so far in terms of content and social interaction.

but they had a huge budget and ressources with lucasarts.

i hope that if LIF will become a big sucess after the steam release and that bobik can aford to add such content in a reasonable time.

I can hear the bagpipes on the battlefield already... heh heh.
Great idea, but I'm guessing it'll be a while before they add it to the game after release.
+1 Immersion.

I'd love to see some or all of this implemented eventually, though I understand most of it would likely have to wait until after release.

I think some of the prefab buildings could serve as a tavern, but I don't know which ones would be most suitable.

That would be awesome indeed :)

Fun fact though - if you go to combat stance and do not engage in combat with someone, you will trigger one of 2 music pieces, and one of them are a "marching" music piece with Bagpipes ;)

Well, most of the buildings are going to be built by players, in their own towns/cities, so I'm not worried about that.

Ha, that's going to give a lot of people headaches... ;) not me though. Seriously, why do some people not like bagpipes?

Although I am Scottish, so... :)
