Graphics too Dark and Depressing?

Post by Crusader316 » 22 Apr 2014, 15:46

Let me first say that I love the setting and the realistic aesthetics of LiF. Actually I love pretty much everything about this game :good:

However, after watching a few gamplay videos it seems to me the world is quite dark and most areas I've seen look more like the cold climate of Russia and Scandinavia rather than the relativly green lands of France and Germany.

So I guess I have a twofold concern.

1. The world is dark almost to the point were I'm straining my eyes to see sometimes. World needs stronger and more frequent sunlight imo.

2. The terrain is very brown and dark green and instead needs to be more lush and of brighter colors.

I don't know if this is intentional to make the world look more realistic or what but my concern is that if the game feels to grey and lifeless people will just not be motivated to build their towns and kingdoms no matter how good the gameplay is.

Is it just me? I'm curious of what you all have to say about this, especially those who have played the alpha firsthand.

You haven't seen anything other than shortly after dawn as time is frozen in alpha for now.

Let's see what midday looks like before thinking it is too dark.

Personally it doesn't feel too dark when playing but i can see where you are coming from, but as Saxxon said we haven't seen it's full effect yet.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I still think the world is a little too brown though. Although I guess it's entirely possible that I've gotten a wrong impression of that too, since I've only watched alpha footage. Hopefully there are greener areas with less pine trees that I haven't seen yet . :D

Could be more dark and grey for my taste though :P

More like Skyrim maybe.

For the time of day and the sun setting I thought the lighting was nice myself and would not worry about it at all until maybe we get into the 24 hours time cycle from day to night and see exactly how it looks then.

Also remember youtube videos tend to come out darker. It's why half the minecraft videos on there are black screens with someone saying "wow cool look at that" :D

The dawn lighting is dim, but it's dawn. I can confirm the sun didn't budge an inch during either of my two play sessions.
