A Glorious Past and a Promising Future
House Valerius is a well established social guild loosely based on a Roman Classical roleplay theme. Our plan is to be very active and to strive for quality over quantity in our recruiting. We focus on the full game experience, doing our best to make sure every member gets the maximum enjoyment out of their gaming time. Among the positions we offer are:
Valerian Reavers cavalry -- A great governor once said the best thing in life is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. Get ready for some lamentation then, and join the Valerian Reavers cavalry. Range far and wide on a variety of assignments from raiding to recon to town defense. Ride down a fleeing enemy as a light cavalry trooper or crash into the enemy flank in true heavy knight fashion. Great for those who can think on the fly and players with a fighting focus, with just enough crafting to keep you in the saddle. Fall into formation and follow your officers into battle, or become an officer yourself and take your riders into the heart of enemy territory to wreak havoc!
Valerian Landsknecht infantry -- Show our enemies the truth in the proverb "Das Leben ist wie ein Kinderhemd--kurz und beschissen". Stand firm, shoulder-to-shoulder with your fellow Valerii in a pike square or scale enemy walls in units of "sword and board" footmen. See what's really on your enemy's mind by opening his skull with your two-hand halberd. Take and hold vital strategic positions, protect your homes and valuables, and turn the tide of battles in the ways that only ground pounders can do. Valerian Landsknechte are fearless, first-rate warriors ready to earn glory through both ferocity and honor.
The Valerian Emporium -- Join this team of elite crafters who strive to be the absolute best they can be. When 99% just isn't good enough, go all the way with the support and camaraderie of a crew of dedicated top-tier talent. Be on the cutting edge of innovation and advancement, making highest quality goods and one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Kings may come and go, but every one of them wears a crown that came from a guy with a hammer and big forearms. Also, we don't believe that whining in the forums counts as a secondary skill. With our guild-organized training and practice, you'll take up a spear and take out those raiders. At House Valerius, our crops get harvested...not our crafters.
Real Life First -- We consist of working adults, college students, and everything in between. We don't judge you on your age, but on your maturity. Joining House Valerius isn't going to be a second job. This isn't WoW and you won't be obligated to punch the clock like a wage-slave and put in 20 or 30 hours a week just to be accepted by the guild. Of course we welcome the powergamer; there's always room for the hardcore player in HV and we have more than a few. Just don't worry about failing Calculus 101 or your wife making you sleep on the couch because of oppressive guild commitments. We know that the 'G' in RPG means it's a game, real life comes first...always.
Serious Fun -- Serious because everyone from the most junior to the most senior, Probationer to Patrician, is held to the highest standards of conduct. Nobody gets a free pass and everyone pulls an oar on this ship. Fun because you get to decide how you do it. Some days you don't have time or just don't feel like making another haystack. Hop in our voice comm channels or meet up in our town square ingame and just shoot the breeze with a friend. At HV, we know we can be elite without being elitist. We believe the social aspect is going to be a major part of our guild success. While we will be selective about which Candidates will become full-fledged Valerii, there's room here for every sort of player, male and female, from the most casual to the most hardcore. In our friendly and respectful atmosphere, many of our members have developed friendships that have lasted for years and crossed continents, a testament to the ability of the House be a fulfilling experience beyond the virtual world.
Rise through the Ranks -- Nothing is more disheartening than joining a guild whose leadership has been determined years before the game even existed and seems to deliberately exclude new people. House Valerius is a living, active, and evolving thing. We have a guild rank system that provides enough structure that it's not pure every-person-for-himself anarchy, but also allows a willing player to rise to a seat on the Council and receive the recognition they deserve. As your rank increases, so does your responsibility, and this keeps HV from becoming stagnant. Someone has to preside over our expansions and outposts, why shouldn't it be you? Won't it be nice to finally have a place where your hard work and dedication is rewarded?
Worldwide Membership -- With members spanning the globe, from all corners of Europe to North America, from bases in Afghanistan to the high desert of New Mexico, no matter when you log in, no matter what hours you keep, there are fellow Valerii there with you.
