I agree with this sentiment, I made a number of posts in the past about movement in melee combat.
Currently it's far too floaty for lack of a better term.
and you can impale yourself on weapons in order to take the handle hit which makes no sense in regards to thrusting attacks.
A lot of balance things still don't make much sense, Cavalry is still beyond the best unit in the game wherever the terrain lets you get away with it, and the class that is "supposed" to be the horse counter doesn't have a specialist piercing resist armor. Leather of all things is actually better in that aspect.
Really wish each class had a light and heavy option for armor, Even vanguard could use a light option for those that play a naked agility style build
