Hi everyone, i have been on the forum for a week and noticed in the guild forum few 'cultural guilds' forming. I have no biff with that, especial considering the backdrop theme of the game. However I am wondering how much racism could surface in the game later down the track. What are people's thoughts on it?

Lol jk, however I feel that with the culture styling each faction has in it's architecture and items, there will be a clash, perhaps each culture becomes it's own faction in a great war against other cultures? would be interesting to see. Knowing humans however, "Racism" Is inevitable.

Mind, if each culture set allowed only one type of skin colour, perhaps in multiple tones then racism might not occur as much due to less intergration, however when trading we'd probably get the odd "You can't trust the thieving so-and-so's they'll rob you of all your money" and stuff, however it sounds like it'll be fun.

In pasted RP games, I usually roleplay as a racist character whose dislikes Orcs/dwarves. Always makes for some good times.

Well, racism isn't gonna be much present in the game (only humans), exept for skin tone. but honestly, if I were to encounter a group that disliked people who choose a particular skintone, even for RP purpose, I would not like it at all.

But, as a descendant of Godefroy de Bouillon, i'm all for religious wars and crusades ;D but only with fictionnal religions though.

I dont think the "problem" will be racism.
I think there will be wars of religion ... if you search through the forums there are some viking styled guild some christian styled guilds and so on ... so I think this will lead to much more in game wars than the skincolour.

I will never get why ppl get offended by someone calling them "fucking nigger" or "nazi scum" or "kebab boy" or whatever other "racial" means u use. I find ppl to be quite pathetic that are offended by words. If words can harm you, what kind of person are u? I dont care what kind of person is the one sending those insults because everyone makes judgement "its bad cus racism".
I will just note 2 things here:
1st of all races do not exist. The concept of race has begun when ppl wanted to be more different then they already were so they could treat others more differently than they used too "cus others are subhumans". There is no such thing as race in science (there was once but it crumbled because there was no basis for it). So, please start learning stuff about racism and finally learn that it is a remnant of a past that some illiterate ppl still try to use today.
2nd Life is Feudal, so if u cant handle a bit of hatred then play Life is Rainbow and other cute things.

I am quite convinced "racism" wont be tolerated in this game (too bad ), but w/e. I hate all ppl equally so i guess i cant get banned for racism then?

I would like the ability to make your own cult/beleif, and have a character select what sort of beleif he wants, then as more people beleive that beleif, the cult turns into a religion at x amount of followers, would be fun, having a witch hunt for a small group of people in a town worshipping another deity. Personally i'd make a church of Sigmar.

Racism is more than words. It is the racist and oppressive structures behind the words that is hurtful and shouldnt be tolerated whatsoever, ever.

Good thing you have know the objective, absolute truth that there are no races. However, it doesnt give you any rights to reproduce the oppressive structures.

The ability is by default called "imagination and creativity" - and can be applied to many other aspects of the game.

Just f.ex; write down the frames around your newfound faith here on the forum - so you can keep track of it, and others can get OOC knowledge of it.
Start RP'ing preaching it to the bypassers in the game - and maybe you will start getting followers.

As your mass of followers grows you can more or less stear them (or brainwash them) to follow any direction you should choose. A website for your members could also be a good idea by now.

This is exactly how this works in real life - without any game mechanics holding their hands (incert a slightly ironic voice of choice here) - I am sure it can work in LiF as well

I do not see why you would want to waste preciouss time by the devs to put in a mechanic that might only suit how YOUR congregation of people should be formed and steered - when you only need to leave this as it is, and people can organize all of this as they choose best for them, without any game mechanic for it.

I do Look forward to people coming up with all sorts of crazy beliefs and religions in game

I think it's Frankish rather than French since "French" has a closer alignment to the French state as opposed to a cultural/ethnical definition as both Frankish and German have.
One could also say that in the 11th century the concept of nations wasn't as developed as they are today. Crusaders were refered to as "Franks" by both Muslim and Christian sources no matter where exactly they were from...

I skipped the word "structural" for some reason and i apologize. My internet is acting up so im quite pissed off and in all that madness i didnt read ur post well.

We are missing the point here (or we dont understand each other). I am only trying to say we should all try to stop using "race" and other derivatives of that word because it is just plain stupid. The fact we are in a way used to that word doesnt make it right. I am just rambling about usage of a word that is based on a fairy tale that some scientists of their era tried to push through and implement it in the common folk. Well they did as we can see. Since the theory of any kind of race has been deemed nonsense by today's science (and since before today). Being discriminated for anything is bad, but calling certain type of discrimination racism is equally wrong. Why? Because promoting that name also promotes racism itself. How? If i say im white race, or black rase or yellow race or other rainbow color race you are still promoting the "science" of race which is false. I see no problem saying "Im white" or "Im black" or "Im yellow" or "Im other color of the rainbow" but adding race after all of that is just wrong.

Races don't exist. However there exist people who believe they do. They practice the belief of racism, and through that a kind of discrimination.

The term racism is needed to understand, analyze and combat the discrimination it allows. Separating different kinds of discrimination, in analyzation, is also needed to understand and combat them.

The words are needed, externally, as long as the belief of races exists.
