Backing up a YO Servers

Post by Reese » 13 Sep 2014, 22:07

Found this in the YO FAQ's...

Ruckus wrote:66. Can i back my server up while it is running, with basic file copy?

Nope. Almost all vital data will be stored in a local database. A proper way to backup would demand some basic knowledge of MySQL administration.

Question is: Any plans to automate this process? Digging thru a sql database isn't too difficult for a lot of people.. but i know first hand the problems it can create. Especially when a mistake affects up to 64 people.

I know nothing about modding. Would it be possible to mod a server to create such an automated process? Something that stops time on a server (pause) for X amount of seconds to allow such a backup to occur?

Thx.

Everything is possible. But these are certainly advanced features, and right now we are busy with a bug fixes and basic functionality.

The best thing I can suggest is to create a cron job/task to do it for you. Once I get it up and running on Silver Sun Republic's server box, I will gladly share the script and the process for making it work.

You'll probably have to remind me about it when YO launches because I'll be busy building dirt castles.
