How to end trolls and griefers in Life Is Feudal

Post by Bobtron » 22 Sep 2014, 13:22

So I am really taken back by the promise of LIF. I really enjoy the mechanics and graphics. Yesterday I joined a clan, but today they killed me, banned me from teamspeak, and the leader removed me from steam all due to the fact that I went to get myself some instant coffee before we went out on a raid.

This got me thinking. We need to come together as a community, and meet the developers of the game halfway. We need to make this game respectful to newbies and experienced players alike. Otherwise, if we don't stand up to griefers and trolls altogether they will turn off a lot of great people to playing Life Is Feudal.

I propose that guilds that plan to play with ethics, and by ethics I mean plan to play LIF with respect for each other as fellow gamers and people behind the computer screen... With good sportsmanship, that these guilds organize into a confederation of guilds together and network with each other. That way, when a guild that even alleges to be a "non troll" guild tries to get in and is detected as a griefer guild, they are ejected from this all encompassing guild roster and dishonored.

I have learned recently, that it is in fact important to play video games with honor. To play with respect to each other, not because it is even owed to you. But because it is better that you simply treat people the way you want to be treated.

That doesn't mean you can't go to war, and raid. But it means that you will honor active principles within LIF. If anyone is interested in what I am saying here and working together with me against trolls/griefers in this way.. Please write up something and get back with your guild leaders to support this type of idea. That all the guilds that want to compose themselves with honor and dignity in LIF and want to stand together with other guilds that are the same way, lets come together now right here.

I am lucky to have joined an active and dedicated community before jumping into LiF:YO. Clearly, I (and any other) could have had a negative experience on this game with the many servers run by unscrupulous folks. This sort of thing will occur when you give players (including server owners) the freedom to run their server as they see fit. Exercising some good consumer skills would be beneficial for everyone. Have a bad experience with a group of people? Tell folks about it, and don't play with those asshats again.

There is a reason why the community I joined (SSR) runs a server with a password. We allow all sorts of individuals and groups in, but they have to act with responsibility and integrity, or they soon see themselves cast out. Holding users to a certain standard is not a bad thing, when you still allow them the freedom to make their own choices (like the bandit we knocked unconscious and then executed last night).

I think as the game matures, we will see mature and responsible groups rise up from the detritus of Steam Early Access. There will always be trolls and griefers, however. But we have tools at our disposal to deal with them.

Most of this is impossible with the clans and players I see coming from Mortal Online and Darkfall. The best solution is for you to find a community server that is away from the official and avoid the official servers all together.

We (The Boondock Gaming Community) run a private server for this reason. Meaning we password protect it to prevent Trolls & Griefers from getting on and ruining our hard work! We are also able to then create our own environment, rules, RP rules, etc etc. This make is so much more enjoyable! I would advise you find a private community. Look at the server pops and find one with a pop you would like and make sure it's pw protected, then try to find that community and get in contact with them!

Join an RP clan, you'll feel right at home.

Actually bobtron you could be half to blame for this as well. While I don't agree that they just kicked you out and muted you, you probably left a couple times for food and drink. This is fine if it's once or twice but on the other end it can get quite irritating.

I've played many online games and while trolls and griefers are common, the second most common type of person is the ones who believe the world will wait for them. There are quite a few people online who will waste others time because they think they are a VIP.

One example, I remember playing medieval 2 online and whilst everyone was in the lobby we were waiting for this one guy for a few minutes. Eventually after 2 or 3 warnings we kicked him due to being unresponsive and after we kicked him he said he wasn't going to be long as he was crushing bottles.

So while trolls and griefers are gamebreaking annoying, the timewaster is just as bad.

This wasn't meant to be personal to you OP.
